Editor:
I’m Dennis and as an agent for the Works I have been distributing the Longlevens local to your homes for many years, so it is likely that you may have seen me on my rounds.
I am now looking to submit some interesting articles, which I hope, will complement our already popular magazine.
For future issues I will be looking for local topics, your opinions (good or bad!), stories & people of interest so any suggestions would be most welcomed - please email dennis@theworkslocal.com.
As a community magazine we are always trying to extend our links with local businesses and believe that our low budget advertising offers could be the answer to promoting a company’s business during the current “credit crunch” climate.

Longlevens Youth U16 With three months of the season already completed the U16’s have made a good start to the season. Now competing in a very strong Cheltenham Youth league , the team has played some great football and shown some battling qualities , to win several close games. Currently we are placed Second in the league and after a convincing win over Stratton Youth from Cirencester are in the last 16 of the Gloucester County Cup where we meet strong opposition in the form of Gotherington Youth, a rival team from the Cheltenham league. The Squad from last season has been bolstered by the introduction of several new players who have added strength and skill to the team. Leading Scores to date are Josh Hergest who has been a revelation in mid-field and Tom Shaw who is showing aggression and determination when leading the attack. In defence Jamie Barker in goal is proving to be the find of the season with some confident displays in goal. Captain Tom Grainger and Ollie Edwards have played consistently well in defence, whilst Adam Gurney has added pace and strength to the mid field.
Currently we have a very strong squad of players which is reflected by the fact that two of our players have been selected for the Gloucestershire County FA Squad. One of our new players Sam Dixon has been made captain and Aaron Lowe selected for the shadow squad. Well done Sam and Aaron for this excellent achievement. I feel that several of our players are well capable of playing at a very high standard of football if they maintain the commitment, dedication and the necessary amount of luck to succeed in the world of professional football.
Coach Dennis Barnsley with the Longlevens Youth U16 Squad With a squad of 18 players, and possibly 1 -2 more players to sign on it is difficult trying to keep everyone happy , as everyone is keen to play. However, whilst the team is winning everyone is prepared to accept the situation. We will keep you updated as the season progresses.
Longlevens Youth U12 Coach Daren Baldwin has provided a brief outline of their season so far. After playing the last 3 seasons as part of Longlevens Infants FC, in the Mid Glos mini soccer league, the team has moved to Longlevens AFC to form part of their active Youth Section. We finished mid table on all occasions, but we were awarded the League Fair Play Winners on two occasions during this time, testimony to the attitude of the players and support from the parents. Moving to 11 aside football this season has been a massive challenge for the boys, but after some early defeats, the team has started to play some great football, which resulted recently in our biggest victory of the season , 9-1 against Quedgeley which included 5 goals scored by Striker Ben McInerney. With the introduction of several new players, including: 2 players from the Gloucester schools squads and 2 from the U11 age group, all are playing really well in a squad that is now settling down and enjoying their football. To date the team has won - 3 Drawn- 1 and lost – 7, although this does not reflect the recent form. Also we are in the Quarter finals of the League cup and the second round of the County cup so we have lots to play for. We are looking forward to the rest of the season which I am sure will see the team continue to play some great stuff !

Pure PamperingPure PamperingPure PamperingPure Pampering
Clare has been a professional makeup artist for the last 6 years specialising in bridal styling in Gloucestershire and has created stunning make up for over 300 weddings! In 2010, she became the distributor of Pure Anada Mineral Cosmetics in the UK. She says, “I love working with mineral make up – the particles are so fine you hardly look or feel as though you are wearing any makeup. I love the authenticity of Pure Anada! It makes me and my customers feel naturally beautiful, which is exactly what women want.” If you’ve never tried minerals Clare does a 30 minute free session to try the products. This year, Clare has expanded her mobile business to incorporate her love of beauty and has selected great products for her customers. For nails, she’s chosen ‘Shellac’; this revolutionary product applies like polish but is cured under a UV light so there is zero dry time. It wears flawlessly up to 14 days of high gloss shine, and is removed in minutes. The formula is thin and flexible like polish, so it not only looks natural; it provides strong natural nail protection with a resilient mirror finish that resists dullness and chipping. Clare is also very proud to introduce a new facial service, ‘Skinbase Microdermabrasion’ which is a system of intense exfoliation and resurfacing using ultra fine crystals that rejuvenate the skin. The crystals work as a gentle abrasive on the skin to remove dead skin cells layer by layer. It improves the overall appearance of the skin, giving you a healthy glow and youthful appearance. Microdermabrasion is also extremely effective at treating a number of skin problems such as acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tones, pigmentation and blemishes. She couples the treatment with Eve Taylor skin care range. And finally, if you’re looking for defined brows then speak to Clare about her ‘Brow Definition’ treatment where your brows are threaded/plucked, trimmed and filled in with mineral powders. Giving you brows to be proud of! Visit Clare’s website for more information

At Last! A NEW FORM OF HEATING FROM GERMANY
Simple to install, Powerful, and no more servicing - EVER!
In Germany and Austria it can get as low as -20, even -30ºC and a single snowfall can be as
much as 3ft or more overnight. To deal with this severe cold they need powerful heating able to
cope with sub zero temperatures and sudden climate change. They need excellent control and
above all - low running costs without the need for constant servicing and replacement parts.
The solution, incredibly... is electric! This incredible
heating could be the answer to help beat ever increasing
energy costs and amazingly, it is not gas or oil, or solid
fuel - but clean electric! All you need is standard supply
and NO special tariff like economy 7.
All over Europe more people are choosing to heat their
homes and offices with this very special form of electric
heating in preference to oil gas or E7. In our area, more and more of our customers are making
that same decision and when you see this incredible heating for yourself you could be next! The
heating looks just like conventional radiators, but STOP! it is very different! Put simply, that
clunky central heating boiler needing constant servicing and replacement parts isn’t the only
choice anymore!
Now you can heat your homes, offices, extensions or conservatories with these incredible
heaters providing individual control over every room without the need for a central control or
wasted boiler space. This incredible German heating simply plugs in! Job Done! You can do
just one room or the whole house! This heating, whilst quite NEW in the UK has been
mainstream for a very long time in Germany and Austria. Sunflow Ltd. offer a complete solution which can include disposing of your old central heating
system, even oil tanks! Discover for yourself this incredible German heating.

Longlevens Library
The many changes that have occurred this year at the Library have resulted in a new approach to
the Library service.
Following the re- structuring of the Library organisation, Christine Field has recently taken on the role
of Principle Library Assistant at Longlevens having previously been located at the Quedgeley
Library. Christine works within a management structure made up of a Group Manager and Group
Librarian.
To understand how the organisation is set up; Longlevens is now part of the Gloucester group of
Libraries and includes: Gloucester, as the main library, with the Hucclecote, Quedgeley and
Longlevens libraries now referred to as “Express” libraries.
The library was due to have several internal modifications completed in late November. The
objective is to enhance the library facility and make it more beneficial to its customers. The new split
level counter would allow child access to library staff and a modern self – service machine would
be centrally located to make book borrowing and return more accessible to everyone.
It is encouraging to know that the library continues to run several well received sessions including:
the Baby Bounce and Play which regularly has over 40 parent and babies are in attendance on
Monday mornings. The session aimed at the 0 – 18 months old babies, gives Mums and Guardians
the opportunity to meet with others with whom they can relate to and exchange ideas and
experiences. The Art Club meets once a month and the Stitch club, available to Adults, only holds
its classes every two weeks, both are proving popular and enjoyable.
Computer access is available in two hourly periods and is another useful resource we could be
taking advantage of.
The Library continues its strong links with the Longlevens Junior School and welcomes its pupils and
teachers in to use the facilities on a daily basis.
We must all ensure that we retain this key facility in our local community by using this valuable
service as often as we can.
Finally, Christine and the Library staff would like to wish everyone in our Community the Season’s
greetings and are looking forward to a happy NewYear.

DAVE’S TOP TIPS
Types of sealant
Silicone sealants
Silicone sealants are not water based so they do not need to dry to go hard, they go hard through a chemical process occurring as a reaction with air. This process is called curing. Silicone sealants are waterproof, can be used outdoors for a variety of waterproofing jobs and come in many colours including clear.
Water based sealants
These sealants and fillers are water based and usually used for gap filling down the sides of architraves or in the top of skirting boards. Again they are supplied in many colours and can be over-painted, some can be sanded and the white ones can sometimes be stained but check on the tube if this is the case.
Roofing sealants
Roofing and gutter sealants are highly flexible, completely waterproof and can be used, as the name suggests, for sealing leaks in gutters and flat roofs. The surface must be absolutely free from dust to get the best possible seal.
Regards
Dave Stevens.
