What is Load Shedding?
INTRODUCTION
What is Load Shedding? When there is not enough electricity is
available to meet the demands of all consumers.
It could be necessary to interrupt the supply of certain areas.

What are the causes of Load Shedding?

WHY LOAD SHEDDING? The total power generation
capacity of Pakistan is (including all sources) 21,143 MW .
And the electricity demand (as of April 2010) is 14,500 MW and PEPCO is merely generating 10,000 MW.
CAUSES OF LOAD SHEDDINGWhat are the causes of Load Shedding? Take a look on Them :
1.No Water In Dams
2.Aging Of Generation Equipment

1. NO WATER IN DAMS We have low water level in our dams which is a source of hydroelectric power.
India has constructed the baglehar dam on river Chenab by which our water level decreasing.
Recently 12 units from the tarbela dams closed due to lower water level.

2. AGING OF GENERATION EQUIPMENTS
Age=aging (grow old or older.)
The equipment which is used for the production of electricity is out of date.
Its become older and the duration of these equipments is also expired.
It cannot work properly and cannot produce the sufficient amount of electricity.
The transformer are to old .
It was installed in the 1990s to provide to ten homes with each having four fans, an equal number of tube lights, a fridge and a television

3. INCREASING COST OF FUEL
The cost of fuel is increasing day by day. It means that the generation from thermal plants are costing high price.
WAPDA and KE when purchasing electricity on higher cost may not be selling it on low price. It should be a great loss.
Major portion of electricity is produced form oil, gas, coal this method is called thermal power.
The production cost is 18 RS per Unit but it is supplied at 12 RS Per unit.
So that govt is unable to set up the new plant due to inadequacy of finance

4. INABILITY OF KE AND WAPDA
WAPDA and KE are two generation and dispatch units in Pakistan.
It is fact that they have poor services and are not able to complete the electricity requirement.
Private sector should be given a chance and allowed to install the power plants and settle to electricity consumers'.Example: China

POWER THEFTINGUsually power utility is blamed for load shedding and power suspension; however, consumers are also equally involved behind prolong load-shedding and unusual power suspension who are involved in power theft and non-payments of bills.

EFFECTS ON PEOPLE Students are facing problem during their exams and they are unable to obtain their desired goals. They cannot complete their assignment also on time.
Patients are also the victims of load shedding they are facing problem during their treatment process.
Daily life work also disturbed from load shedding. People facing problem in completing their household tasks.

Following are the some reason which cause of downfall of our economy:
Productivity when performing various tasks has also decreased rapidly.
Time management is also a big issue
Commodities kept for preservation in cold storages gets spoiled
Farmers fail to water their field on time which cause shortage.

People protested against power outage by burning tires and blocking the road.
Patients face problem to reach Hospital.
Student face problem to reach School because roads are block.

SOLAR PANELS/SOLAR ENERGY
Solar energy is derived from the sun in the form of uv rays.
Pakistan has a great gift of God “Sun-Light". It should be installed in the hottest areas like sibi,jacobabad.
It should be also installed on a town levels in Karachi where there is much shortage of electricity.
Cottage industry and power looms are also run from solar energy.
WIND ENERGY/WIND TURBINES
The power, which produce through the energy in winds, is called wind energy.
Pakistan is blessed with a large resource of wind corridor. According to wind map of Pakistan a strong wind corridor is found at Sindh costal areas.
Government should pay attention in this resource.

HYDEL ENERGY Water flowing in the river has kinetic energy, which is used to drive the turbine and produce electricity the power generated as Hydel Energy.
This is the cheapest source of electricity and it is used as major source of electricity in Pakistan
Although we cannot build big and large dams but we should construct small dams for industrial sector.
It is also necessary because of Indus basin treaty violence by India.

NUCLEAR ENERGY Energy which produce by emission of radiation from the nucleus of atom.
Pakistan is in need of energy very badly and urgently. Pakistan should look for nuclear energy possibilities.
Pakistan is one of the seven countries who has a great ability to operate nuclear power plant for last 40 years .
Government should work on development of this resource.

SUMMARY Electricity is short not only in Karachi but also in Pakistan and as a result electric load shedding ,breakdowns,power,outages and blackouts are common features in the city.
There are many factors behind the load shedding shortage of river water, power theft,dismanagement,defective planning of WAPDA and KE,corruption and in completing projects.
Load Shedding is a great curse. Its disturbs the people belonging all walk of life like student,patients,bussinessman,farmers,doctors ,industrialists,mechanices,housewives,laborers and etc.
Pakistan can not make any progress in any field in the presence of load shedding. Government should take all the possible measure to end the load shedding from the country.
Power should be generated from solar and nuclear energy. Thefting of power should be stopped and new projects should be started and corruption should be removed.
What are we doing and what to do? What we have learned from this presentation and what are the responsibilities that Belong to us?
CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION We all know that our country is in critical condition and we are looking for international aid. Therefore it is not easy to start these projects immediately .
If we want to get the rid off this crisis, we have to change our life style. We should definitely learn the saving of energy. The unnecessary use of energy should be stopped. Unfortunately we should spent luxurious life style. We should spent a simple life.
In last 10 years not a single mega watt was added. Blame games ,seminars, conferences and events on energy issues in Pakistan are not necessary as compare to do something practical.
