• Research conducted by the ILM, CIPD, CMI and ACAS

• Report: Leadership & Management in the UK – The Key to Sustainable Growth emphasised 6 key messages.

The Case for Leadership & Management Development

66

Key Messages for Organisations

• Fact 1. Organisations with better qualified Managers and a dedicated programme of Leadership and Management Development perform better

• Fact 2. Better trained Managers ensure a more engaged workforce and enhance employee wellbeing, leading to better performance, lower absenteeism and lower staff turnover

• Fact 3. Underperforming Managers cost organisations money and are directly linked to business failure.

77

Key Messages for Organisations

• Fact 4. Underperforming Managers affect competitive advantage and productivity

• Fact 5. There are some great Managers – but these are held back by underperformers

• Fact 6. If the bottom half of performers were brought up to the standard of the average performer, your country performance would be a world-beater!.

(Adapted from a report written by ILM, CIPD, CMI and ACAS in 2012)
