Goals: At the end of this course you will be trained towards:

Planning sessions Safely introducing novices to canoeing Teaching the foundation strokes Coaching methods Managing safety and dealing with incidents Simple journey leadership Running assessments

What is a Level II Coach? Level 1 Level 2 Trainee and Coach Level 3 Trainee and Coach Level 4 Coach Level 5 Aspirant and Coach

Level II Coach Terms of Reference Aims: A qualification for those

introducing others to canoeing on sheltered water only.

Types of Craft: Closed Cockpit Kayak, Open Canoes, Open Cockpit Kayaks and Canoes.

Definition of Sheltered Water Small Lakes Canals Slow moving rivers (not weir or

rapids) Suitable sections of large lakes Some quiet, enclosed harbours with

minimal chance of being blown out to sea

The Five B’s Body – head, trunk, hands, hips,

knees, feet. Boat – direction, speed, angle,

edge, trim. Blade – shaft/blade angle, position,

penetration, cadence/RPM. Brain – mental state, knowledge. Background – environment.
