Minimum Mechanical EQUIREMENTS:
Ag must be 1/3 of Avessel
Ao must be 1/3 of Avessel
Aw must be 1/6 of Avessel
AD must be 1/6 of Avessel

Ag = 12.8 ft2 ( Calculated value = 1.33 ft2) 9.42 sq. ft. 11.4 sq. ft.
Ao = 12.8 ft2 ( Calculated value = 9.74 ft2) 9.42 sq. ft. 11.4 sq. ft.
Aw = 6.4 ft2 ( Calculated value = 5.84 ft2) 4.71 sq. ft. 5.7 sq. ft.
AD = 6.4 ft2 4.71 sq. ft. 5.7 sq. ft.
For Vessel diameter = 7 ft. or 72 in., c.s. area = 38.5 sq. ft.
For Vessel diameter = 6 ft. or 72 in., c.s. area = 28.27 sq. ft.For Vessel diameter = 6.6 ft. or 78 in., c.s. area = 34.21 sq. ft.
VESSEL SIZE REQUIRED :
AVessel = Ag + Ao + Aw + AD = 11.4 + 11.4 + 5.7 + 5.7
AVessel = 34.2 ft2
DVessel = (34.2/0.785)0.5
Dvessel = 78 inches or 6.5 feet
The selected vessel is now 78 inches x 20 feet S/S, Compared to original vertical
vessel size of 90 ID x 20 S/S.

Homework #4 (Due on 2/25/2013)
Size a 3-phase Horizontal separator given the followingdesign conditions:
Oil flow rate: 18000 B/D
Water flow rate = 8000 B/D
GOR: 4000 SCF/STB Oil S.G. = 0.90
Gas S.G. = 0.75
Pressure = 650 psig
T = 95o F
Oil retention time = 8 minutes
Water retention time = 3 minutes

Because of the small liquid volume, we select a
sump/boot at the end of the vessel to handle the
liquid. Lets use 12 sump
The liquid height in sump
This height is not practical to work with, so we
select 18 inches liquid height in a 36 inches highsump.

Overall vessel size is 48 OD x 10 S/S with 12 OD x 36Sump (Height of boot is from bottom of the vessel to the
bottom head seam of the boot)
