1. Intro
Here they come – our new high class systems, the Konica
Minolta bizhub 600 and bizhub 750. These two powerful
machines perfectly perform in any of the following four
disciplines thanks to their “all-in-one” system architecture:
copying, scanning, printing, and even faxing! With an output
speed of 60 and 75 pages per minute respectively, and a
maximum monthly print volume of 300,000 pages, our new
pace makers respond equally well to the requirements of large
workgroups, busy departments and CRDs and are also suitable
as back-up machines in light PoD environments.
Advanced network scanning and printing functions,
comprehensive archiving capabilities, solid paper handling,
production-like finishing and – last not least - a new easy to
understand graphic user interface combined with a large user-
friendly tilt-capable operation panel and touch screen
guarantee an unprecedented level of efficiency, ease of use
and superior output quality.
Increased copy and print resolution, full Document Box and Job
Spooler functionality, LDAP and Active Directory support,
compliance with the ISO 15408 EAL3 security standard (from
mid 2006) as well as a new generation of polymerised toner are
but a few of the many highlights built into our new high volume
units.
Due for launch in October 2005, the two new models directly
succeed our successful Konica Minolta 7255/Di5510 and
7272/Di7210. Enter into new dimensions of document
management and production and let your work flow with the
Konica Minolta bizhub 600 and bizhub 750!

2. Market
2.1 Market Trend
In 2004, Europe saw a combined total placement of 26,533 B/W standalone and MFP units in
category 4, which corresponds to a 11.6% share of the total office B/W market. According to
InfoSource, the CAGR in this category is around 4% for the timeframe from 2003 until 2008. That
means there is room for growth, if modest one, hence a certain potential for our two new high
volume units to be sold successfully.
Needless to say, we can no longer neglect the presence of colour capable devices also in this area
of the market. The Canon iR6800CN, for example, has been sold very successfully, its price being
in line with comparable B/W units. And also Ricoh will launch several H/V colour capable products
soon. On the whole, the percentage of colour capables in the upper speed range is somewhere
around the 10% marker in 2005, but is thought to almost triple by 2008. Similarly, the replacement
of standalone units by MFPs is accelerating and a 50 : 50 distribution of the market was reached
by the middle of this year. Analogue machines are predicted to die out completely in most
segments by the year 2008 and also single-function printer placements are expected to decline
sharply.
According to InfoSource’s prediction for the first half of 2005, Konica Minolta were able to capture a
7.8% market share (= rank 4) of the monochrome office market in Cat. 4 with Canon, Ricoh and
Xerox in the leading three positions.

Yet, we are losing market share in this segment. One reason for this can be seen in the fact that 60
– 68 ppm models dominate segment 4 sales and up to now we had no product in this speed range.
Luckily, this will now change with the introduction of the bizhub 600.
InfoSource Cat 4 (60~89ppm) by ppm (in Top10)
InfoSource 2004
2.2 Sales Approach
Within our own product line-up, the bizhub 600 covers the speed range from 55 – 65/70 ppm, while
the bizhub 750 covers that from around 70 – 80 ppm. The focus for both products clearly is the
office environment. While with the bizhub 600 we are mainly targeting the needs of large, busy
departments as well as CRDs, with the bizhub 750 we seek to additionally concentrate on copy
shops/print for pay businesses as well as back-up installations in light PoD environments.
As pointed out before, there is definitely still a considerable potential of analogue as well as first
and second generation digital machines in the field that could aptly be replaced by the bizhub 600
and bizhub 750. Thanks to their increased speed, all-in-one architecture, EmperonTM technology
and new bizhub design we will, however, hopefully also be able to open up new markets and
generate additional sales in the high volume arena.

We must not only secure and expand Konica Minolta’s revenue from high print volumes, but we
should at the same time strengthen our overall brand awareness by advertising the bizhub concept
also at the upper end of the market.
To date it is unclear whether HP will continue to procure the products from Konica Minolta as
replacement for their current LaserJet 9055 and 9065 MFPs.
2.3 Positioning
Regarding their recommended average and maximum print volumes, the bizhub 600 and bizhub
750 are positioned within the Konica Minolta product range as shown in the below volume graph.

3. Product Concept
The bizhub 600 and bizhub 750 are based on the new bizhub
OP (Open Platform), the most important parts of which are
the all-in-one architecture, which uses the same CPU and
firmware to control all copy, scan, network and fax functions
as well as the EmperonTM driven print system with a unified
interpreter, PJL (HP compatible) and printer driver. About
80% of the firmware is identical to that of the bizhub C450
and it will also be largely common with that of future models,
which is a considerable advantage not only from development point of view, but also in major
account installations where several different Konica Minolta devices are installed and will provide
the user with the same, easy to understand interfaces: “get to know one, operate all”!

5. Special Features and their Benefit
5.1 Job Management
Up to 50 jobs can be pre-programmed directly at
the machine and the bizhub 600 and bizhub 750
are able to manage a large number of jobs
simultaneously (e.g. print while scan) already
from the first firmware release. This multi-access
capability ensures fast job processing and low
down times.
5.2 bizhub Design & Operation
“Innovative, intelligent, pleasant” – these are the
key words that describe the bizhub design concept. Special thought has been given to the product
colouring and shape, easy tray handling and especially the operation panel:
The bizhub 600 and bizhub 750 are equipped with a new, tilt-capable panel with a user-friendly
and easy to understand key layout. The large touch-screen LCD offers clearly arranged function
keys and the “Enlarge Display” feature allows to zoom up the display to increase legibility for
visually impaired people. The newly designed common GUI (graphic user interface) is largely
identical to that of the bizhub C450, and will also be seen on future models.
Apart from these obvious assets, also the noise emission has been reduced considerably
compared to the predecessors. Thus, the bizhub 600 and bizhub 750 will not be perceived as a
disturbing factor if installed in open space offices and therefore no longer need to be confined to a
dedicated room.

5.3 Scanning
The document feeder scans 75 originals per minute at a resolution of 600 x 600. By interpolation a
writing resolution of 1,200 x 600 dpi is realised in copy mode by adapting the rotation speed of the
polygon mirror accordingly. Supported file formats are TIFF and pdf (both single and multi-page).
Scan to FTP, SMB and eMail are standard features thanks to the standard Ethernet
10baseT/100baseTX network card; scan to HDD/Box and TWAIN network scanning is optional and
only possible if the hard disk (HD-503) is installed.
For more details on the various scanning applications please also refer to our separate scan guide
and flash file.
5.4 Printing
The bizhub 600 and bizhub 750 come equipped with an Intel Celeron 400 and 650
MHz CPU, respectively. The print resolution is 2,400 x 600 dpi (interpolated),
supported Operating Systems are Win98/Me, NT4.0/2000/XP/2003; Mac 9.x/10.x.
The print function is part of the standard board and can be easily activated with
the optional IC-202 image controller.
The products are EmperonTM driven, which means that print jobs are received and queued in the
form of PDL (printer description language), such as PCL6 and PostScript3 (both clone versions),
queued jobs are output to the print engine and interpreted and rasterised (PCL, PS, PDF) into
bitmap data.
The printer is HP PJL compatible. HP Webjet Admin Plug-ins are available for download from the
Konica Minolta website (from spring/mid 2006). Special print functions include Secure Printing,
Booklet, Mixplex (combination of simplex and duplex prints), Chapterisation (a new chapter always
starts on a right page in a document/booklet), Proof Printing and TAB printing, as well as full
finishing and front/back cover support. A USB 2.0 and a parallel IEEE1284 interface are available
as options. The 512 MB of memory are shared with the copier.
With the Job Spooler information about the machine status and configuration as well as access to
(i. e. viewing of) complete job queues is provided. Moreover, prioritising and cancellation of jobs in
the list as well as their reprinting can be selected.
August 2005 Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe GmbH Page 18 International Marketing Division
Office Marketing Group
Launch Guide bizhub 600/bizhub 750
5.5 Document Box/Server
The Box function turns the bizhub 600 and bizhub 750 into true document
servers and archiving systems, allowing for the sharing and distribution of
often used files and forms. Up to 1,000 user boxes (public and personal
ones) are available for copy, print, scan and fax jobs. Access to the boxes
can be controlled by specifying a box password. Personal user boxes can be used by certain
individuals only. If user authentication settings have been applied, the box can only be accessed
by users who have logged in.
Documents are named automatically by function type, device name, data and document number,
but can also be named manually. Documents stored in a box can be deleted, renamed, moved or
copied to another box, be printed or proof printed, and complete output and finishing settings can
be selected. Various jobs stored in a box can be combined to a new job regardless of their file
format.
Moreover, routing of scanned documents to eMail, FTP or SMB is possible as well as selection of
the file type independent from the scanner setting.
Faxes can be received into a user box, be printed or re-routed to fax transmission or an eMail
address.
Through PS WebConnection, scan and fax boxes can be accessed, files can be downloaded and
their format be changed (pfd, tiff).
5.6 Fax
FK-502 is a Super G3 fax option with a 33.6 Kbps modem, 200 up to 600 dpi resolution (normal,
fine, superfine, ultra-fine), MH/MR/MMR/JBIG compression. The fax option will become available
at the beginning of 2006. Additional fax functionality will then be provided with Phase 2 (spring
2006), including dual line fax, which is supported if a second FK-502 is installed.
Up to 1000 abbreviated dials (up to 2000 with hard disk) and 200 one-touch and program dials (up
to 400 with hard disk) are available. Functions like Quick Memory transmission (fax-while-scan),
book transmission and batch transmission are available as are 230 Polling locations.

Office Marketing Group
Launch Guide bizhub 600/bizhub 750
The availability of iFax is still pending. It is currently planned for Phase 2. iFax will however not
require the installation of FK-502, but only of the hard disk, HD-503.
5.7 Security
The bizhub 600 and bizhub 750 are compliant with the ISO 15408 EAL3
security standard. The application will be submitted as soon as the Phase 2
firmware has been released around spring 2006 so that certification can
finally be expected by mid 2006. In addition to this, both products offer a
range of additional safety features such as copy and print accounting, secure
printing, function restriction for copy, print, scan, fax and box functions, user authentication (see
below), SSL encryption (the protocol is used for data communication between the LDAP server,
the PageScope Data Administrator or PageScope WebConnection and the main body), IP filtering
and more. Besides, all MFP operations can be stored in the log data, thereby allowing to trace
unauthorised access.
With the optional security chip SC-501, which will become available with Phase 2, data can be
encrypted. Moreover, hard disc data can be overwritten and the hard disc can additionally be
secured with a password. Unauthorised tampering with files is thus made impossible.
5. 8 User Authentication/Accounts
The use of network related functions can be restricted by Windows Active Directory via pre-
registration of user IDs and passwords. Up to 1,000 accounts are available.
5. 9 Print Status Notifier
From Phase 2, the Print Status Notifier will also be
available for the bizhub 600 and bizhub 750. This
tool monitors the print status and notifies the user
about the job completion or errors that occurred
when printing through real-time bi-driectional
communication via SNMP. It needs to be installed
manually and is only supported by the PCL driver.

5.10 Finishing
Sorting, grouping, off-setting, stapling of up to 100 sheets, folding (Z-fold, letter fold, centre fold),
complete booklet production, selectable 2 and 4 hole punching as well as cover/sheet insertion
from the Post Inserter represent the range of available online finishing functions. New is that all
three finishing options, the punch kit, the Z-fold unit incl. punch kit and the post inserter can be
combined with any of the three finishers, alone or in any desired combination. If a user not only
wants to punch sheets fed from the paper trays, but also covers or sheets inserted from the post
inserter, he will have to install the post inserter, Z-fold unit as well as the punch kit.
Another noteworthy improvement is that the finisher productivity has been increased to reach
100% in almost all modes. Yet, there is also a drawback: the originally planned staple-cut function
for the FS-505 will finally not be available.
5.11 Function/Option Matrix

8. Consumables
9. Environmental Aspects
The new Blue Angel Mark, Energy Star and TÜV/GS regulations are met.
Moreover, the bizhub 600 and bizhub 750 are RoHS (Regulation on the use of
Hazardous Substances) compliant, a regulation that prohibits the use of lead,
mercury and other such substances with electronic equipment and comes into
force by mid 2006. Likewise, the criteria of the WEEE regulation (Waste of Electric
and Electronic Equipment) are fulfilled.
The DTS (German Definitive Telefax Standard) test has been passed for the fax
option.
The drum of the bizhub 600 and bizhub 750 has a
yield of 500,000 copies/prints and can also be used
with the Konica Minolta 7255/7272.
One toner cartridge lasts for approx. 55,000
copies/prints at 6% coverage. The bizhub 600 and
bizhub 750 use a new kind of polymerised toner that
requires a 15° lower fixing temperature compared to
the current polymerised toner.
The developer lasts for 250,000 copies/prints. Both
the toner and the developer are new and to be used
exclusively with the bizhub 600 and bizhub 750.
A PM-Kit for up to 250,000 copies/prints is also
available and for exclusive use with the new models.

The new generation of SimitriTM
polymerised toner requires a 15° C
reduced fixing temperature, which
results in lower power consumption, a
faster warm-up time, thus supporting the
environmentally sound product concept.
10. Technical Improvements The 7255/Di5510 and 7272/Di7210 have received a BLI 5-star recommendation
so it does not surprise that according to our records, no major problems were
reported for these products, except for toner/developer spilling. Yet, numerous
small improvements have been built into the new bizhub 600 and bizhub 750, as
follows:
- All-in-one architecture for improved multi-tasking/access capabilities
- Increased copy/print resolution through interpolation and increased speed of polygon mirror
- Increased line speed and reverse feeding for improved main body productivity
- Additional resist roller and pick-up sensor for increased ADF feed
- High speed shift mechanism for improved finisher productivity
- Improved sort and staple mechanisms
- Cooling fan vibration control for reduced stand-by noise
- Brush-less motor for reduced finisher noise
- Reduced fusing temperature and WUT due to new polymerised toner
- Longer developer sleeve and toner suction path plus increased toner filter capacity to prevent
toner spill
- Improved imaging unit and scanner unit for increased image
quality
- Extended machine life: 7.5 million (i/o 5 million)
- Increased MCBF: 120 K (i/o 100 K)
- Increased MCBJ: 30 K (i/o 20 K)
