DESCRIPTION

Konni is a small hilly town in the Pathanamthitta district, Kerala state, India. The elephant training centre is about 10Kms from the Pathanamthitta town. In the past, wild elephants caught from the forests were brought here and put in wooden cages known as 'Aanakoodu' (Elephant Cage, or Kraal) to be tamed and trained for work.

You can take an elephant ride along with trained mahouts.

Elephant Museum : Houses a display of elephant skeleton, various devices used by mahouts to control elephants, details of anatomical features of the elephant etc.

with prior arrangement you can watch feeding of elephants, bathing of elephants and go for trekking in the nearby forests.

In the camp the elephants have mahouts and have working schedule and diet guidelines as per the Forest Deptartment. The elephants are allowed to graze in the forest plus a diet that include Palm leaves, Wheat, Ragi, Horse gram and Karipetti (a variety of Jaggery).
