PRACTICING AT HOME IS… Reviewing the Practice Log

They should start practicing by looking at their assignment and goals.

This is found in the practice log. Mastering the Skills We are Learning

Songs and exercises should be repeated. One or two songs or exercises mastered is better

than five or six done poorly. Specific practice skills are taught in lessons.

Practice Time Goal 5-6 days a week – 15 – 20 minutes each day

practiced The student should record the amount of time

practiced.

ENCOURAGING YOUR CHILD Take an Interest in your Child’s Progress

Go through the Practice Log with your student. Ask them to show you what they should be working on.

Practice Time and Preparation Work with your child to find a good daily practice time. Stress the importance of practicing for the sake of improving.

Be Your Child’s Number 1 Fan!!! Be a positive encourager. Help lead your student to proper choices. Ask your child to show and explain to you what they have been working

on. Ask them how their lesson went that day. Encourage them to be open and honest with their teacher.

Give Positive, Constructive Feedback. I like the way your instrument sounds. I can really tell how you have improved. It is great to see you being responsible for your instrument and

practicing. I am glad that you are enjoying being in band. Could you play a song for me?
