Why Sri Lanka?

Tamil Tigers – Conflict in Sri Lanka

•A terrorist group fighting the Sri Lankan government•Recovery from the Tsunami is affected by ongoing conflict

Where is the school?

Where did the money go?

“The cost of the building will be about two thousand five hundred pounds, and then we have to put desks and chairs and books and floor tiles and carpet, and first aid box, fire extinguisher, and a store cupboard for pens, pencils, exercise books, etc. Outside we normally put swings and a see-saw, and a surrounding fence.... so four thousand pounds in total with the children ready and in uniform.” Bob Uppington – Shiva Charity

November 2006 – The building is finished

The logo competition!

The Uniforms!

What happened next? “We are waiting for the local council to remove

the electricity cables away from the school before the children are able to attend. They are in a nearby building at the moment. We have been assured that they will do this soon. The problem has been an upsurge in the violence in the last months, and the builders have had to be very careful…so we just have to see what happens next. But the school is in a safe little area, and we hope to get it up and running ASAP.”

April 2007 – Finally Open!

What next?• We would like to continue

sponsoring the school• The costs of this are £60 per month• We have money to do this for a few

months, but need to continue fundraising

• How can you help?

Well done to all who helped!
