How did this project come to be?
1. I thought about the fact that I hear people, well especially women, tell their stories to each other daily.
2. How could I make an impact on them and others as we shared our thoughts, challenges, and rewards?
3. What beAer way to have people share and also provide inspiraCon to others without having to go through lots of turmoil to learn something too difficult?
4. The project materialized using free soHware, inviCng ladies to share insight into their lives, but most importantly having something they can pass down to their own children and future generaCons.
5. What did I want to see as the finished project?
First Steps-‐Designing the QuesCons
• 1. Each quesCon needed to be unique and something that each of the parCcipants would not have trouble answering.
• 2. The quesCons could not be to probing-‐I didn’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable or inCmated.
• 3. The quesCons need to be open-‐ended meaning the parCcipant could share whatever they chose to share without fear of having to actually answer the quesCon correctly. There were no right or wrong answers. Each of the parCcipants were made aware of this in the very beginning that this was their “open” field to explore.
• 4. The quesCons also had to incorporate future goals. • 5. QuesCons needed to provoke thought some criCcal
thinking regarding how they would reply.
12-‐QuesCons Developed
• 1. Background-‐the ladies wrote about their childhood, where they were from, important events in their lives, and anything else they could think of this was their secCon.
• 2. Where do you Live-‐
• 3. Advice for Others-‐ • 4. Dreams for the future-‐
• 5. EducaCon-‐
12 QuesCons-‐Con’t
• 6. Places of Healing-‐ • 7. Leadership-‐ • 8. On Being a Woman-‐
• 9. On Being Themselves-‐

Kimberly,
I checked with my agent--all is well.
I'm honored you're using a quote from my book and grant you permission, provided it is corrected.
I began to check it against the book and noticed a few discrepancies (e.g. "Gulf" should be capitalized and it's missing at least one ellipsiswhere text has been omitted).
Would you please correct it and run it back by me?
Thanks--and congratulations on your project. I enjoyed reading from the women's stories. I've just become a mother, so it is always goodto hear wise words from other women.
I will keep my eye out for an email with the revised quote.
Best wishes,Miranda

Is this OK withyou, if not, than I do understand. This book is for profit.

We also offer 3 hole punching for customers who just want the pages printed.
Paper options
For color printing, we offer 80# Lustro High Gloss Enamel paper or 80# White Matte paper(dull, non-glossy). The high gloss paper is similar to school book text enamel used in yearbookprinting. For black printing, our standard text paper is 60# acid-free Accent Opaque WarmWhite (also called smooth opaque off-white). Most bookstore quality non-color books areprinted on this type of paper. We do offer, however, the 60# smooth white paper for blackprinting as an option at no additional cost. Cover stock is 10pt cover stock with liquidlamination, UV coating at no additional cost. With $0.25/Book extra cost, plastic lamination isstill available as an optional choice for your cover finishing.
Cover designs
The cover for your book is a very important selling tool. You can have a great story to tell, but ifthe cover fails to draw attention, the book will not sell. All large book publishers and distributorslook for an attractive cover and book title. Good designs are what make buyers reach for theproduct.
Instantpublisher.com customers have three choices to make in cover design. The first, a blackand white design printed on white cover stock can be designed in your Microsoft Windows-based program and can be the first and last page of the copy you upload to the web. Thismeans that page 2 and next to last page will be blank unless you want printing on the insidefront and inside back cover. If you have a black and white photo, you can place a lowresolution copy in your text document and email a high resolution EPS or TIF file, referencingyour order number.
The second selection for cover design would be one of Instantpublisher.com's full colordesigns. If you chose this selection on your order, you will be given a screen to complete theinformation you want imprinted and the cover design you selected.
The third choice is customer full color cover design. You will email, mail or ftp your customcover art separately after placing your order. Customer full color photo or art designs can beprinted on your front cover. All images for the cover should be scanned and saved as EPS, TIFor PDF files at 300 dpi. For color accuracy be sure to use CMYK colors and take the hard copyproof option. Instantpublisher.com also offers custom cover design services at an affordableprice if you need help.
Each binding style has its own template. The perfect binding is used for paperback books andis the standard book style we offer at no additional charge. This binding is great for novels andshort stories. The base cost includes your design printed in black ink at no additional charge.Additional ink colors are available for an additional charge. Instantpublisher.com has a numberof full color cover designs that can be personalized with your wording and the selectedtypestyles.
Line art for the front cover should be scanned at 600 dpi. If you elect to haveInstantpublisher.com provide an ISBN number and EAN bar code, the placement of the ISBNbar code should be taken into consideration when your design is submitted. The bar codemust be printed in black ink and placed on a white background area measuring 2 3/8 x 1 3/8inches. The white space should be at least 7/16 inch from the bottom of the cover printing.Instantpublisher.com will e-mail you your ISBN number and EAN bar code so you can positionit with your back cover art. The ISBN number has to be printed on the copyright page withinyour book.
6/8/10 9:11 PMBook publishing frequently asked questions
Page 3 of 8http://www.instantpublisher.com/faq.htm#q2
We use a liquid lamination (UV Coating) 10 point cover stock that is very durable and gloss forextra protection. At an extra $0.25 per book cost, you can select plastic lamination as anoptional choice. However, UV Coating is not available for Case/Hardback Bound books, 3Ring Cased books and Double Wire Wraparound books, you can only have the plasticlamination for these 3 binding styles. The plastic lamination for case/hardback bound booksand 3 ring cased books is free, yet $0.25 per book extra will be added for double wirewraparound binding. Please refer to the cover templates for the size of book you plan topublish. The center spine on a perfect bound book is determined by the number of pages inyour book. If the cover is the wrong size, you will have to correct it and resubmit because it willnot fit your book.
Artwork and photographs
Black ink line art and black and white images either within the text or as a cover will be printedfor no additional charge. Our process has a maximum resolution of 600 dots-per-inch (DPI),which produces acceptable quality for most line art and photographs. If in doubt, print yourdocument from your library viewer (utilizing the 'Direct Print' option) to a Hewlett PackardLaserJet or compatible printer and view the quality. For cover art, all photographs should bescanned and sent as EPS or TIFF 300 dpi files. A full color photo design on the front cover(Customer Full Color Cover Design) is priced according to the size of the order. See thepricing chart here for more information.
Instantpublisher.com can print from any Microsoft Windows or Apple Macintosh basedsoftware. However, many word processing programs do not accept high quality photographscans like the graphics programs: QuarkXPress, Adobe Illustrator or PhotoShop. If your coverdesign or content contains photographs and you want high quality printing, you will have toutilize a graphics program like one of the three programs listed above. Microsoft Word willaccept photos within the text; however, when printed the quality is limited to 600 dots-per-inch.You can quickly tell the quality by printing the file to your local laser printer.
Manuscript Preparation
The best way to produce a book is go to a bookstore and look at as many page designs aspossible. Your book should start with a title page, followed by the copyright page. The titlepage typically includes the title, subtitle, name of publisher and author. The copyright pagemust contain Copyright © followed by the year and name of who the copyright is filed under.Example: title page and copyright page. One frequently quoted source is Strunk & White's"The Elements of Style" at http://www.strunkandwhite.com If you have questions about type foryour text pages, you might look at http://www.adobe.com/type/ for ideas. Your cover canoptionally be full color. Content pages can be printed in black type, or can be in full color.
Listing the publisher (your name) and printer on the copyright page is standard in the bookpublishing industry. The book would be printed by Instantpublisher.com.
All books are priced by the number of pages. Many books will have special pages such as aTable of Contents; Foreward or Introduction; Glossary or Index. There again, you are thepublisher and have full control of how the pages will look and in what order they appear in yourbook. Do not use too many fonts, especially on the same page and never use all caps.

Getting Your Book InBarnes & Noble
How to be Considered foran Author Event
Each year, we review more than 100,000 submissions from publishers of every sizeand background. Our buyers review publishers’ catalogues, marketing materials andgalleys or sample copies to help them make their decisions. Most of these booksare added to our book database and a small order is placed for our warehouse. This makes a title available for sale on our Web site and for order through ourstores.
If you would like your title to be considered by our buyers, please submit a finishedcopy (no manuscripts please) of the book along with marketing and promotionplans, trade reviews, and a note describing how the book meets the competition(what makes it unique) to:
The Small Press DepartmentBarnes & Noble122 Fifth AvenueNew York, NY 10011
Please include your phone number and e-mail address.
The information must include the ISBN and the suggested retail price. The reviewprocess takes about six weeks. The Small Press Department responds to allsubmissions in writing.
All books will be considered for store placement based on subject matter andsalability. Please consider the following points when publishing and presenting yourbook.
Points to Consider
1. Does your book have an International Standard Book Number (ISBN)?2. Does your book have a bar code?3. What sort of binding (saddle stitch, staple, perfect, plastic comb, ring) does
your book have?4. Is your book available through a wholesaler?5. Is your book priced competitively with other titles of a similar topic and
quality?6. Has your book met compliance certification?7. Why should Barnes & Noble place your title on its shelves?8. Where can you find more information on the topic of book writing,
publishing, and marketing?
Does your book have an International Standard Book Number (ISBN)?
We use the ISBN to track inventory and sales information. An ISBN is a 10-digitnumber that specifically identifies your title. ISBNs are furnished by:
ISBN Agency630 Central AvenueNew Providence, NJ 07974(877)310-7333(908)219-0188 (fax)www.isbn.org
Processing takes 10 working days. An extra fee brings 72-hour priority handling. Ifyour book has already been printed, you can sticker your book with the ISBN onceit is assigned. The ISBN and price should appear on the back cover of the book. TOP

Does your book have a bar code?
Bar codes help our stores handle books more efficiently. The bar code whichincorporates your ISBN is scanned at the time of purchase, thus recordingaccurately the sale of your book. The book industry uses the Bookland EAN barcode, not the UPC. If your book is already printed, you can have pressure sensitivelabels produced for placement on the back cover. For a list of commercial Bar codesuppliers, visit the BISG website: www.bisg.org/barcoding/bc_suppliers.html. TOP
What sort of binding (saddle stitch, staple, perfect, plastic comb, ring) doesyour book have?
Perfect binding is more expensive, but perfect-bound books have the potential for alonger shelf life and better sales because the name of the book can be printed onthe spine. Since most of the titles in our stores are placed on the shelves spine out, stapled or saddle stitched books essentially disappear. If your book is plastic comb-bound or perfect-bound, the title and other pertinent information should be printedon the spine. Otabind is another type of perfect binding that allows a paperback tolie flat.TOP
Is your book available through a wholesaler?
Your willingness to place your book with a book wholesaler may determine whetheror not we carry it. Wholesalers normally expect a 50-55% discount, pay in 60-90days, and expect books to be returnable. Some expect free freight. Placing yourbook with a wholesaler will simplify your billing (one invoice to one location). It alsoallows Barnes & Noble to place larger orders and put the book on automaticreplenishment. Wholesalers are used by many segments of the book industry:publishers, libraries, and booksellers. Other bookstores order from the samewholesalers used by Barnes & Noble. We can help put you in touch with anappropriate wholesaler.TOP
