Interactive Whiteboards& Whiteboard Apps

Use the term “IWB’s”• Interactive Whiteboards (IWB’s) is the term

used to refer to a Smartboard, Promethean board, Mimeo or any other brand name of interactive whiteboard.

Research

• In his book Interactive Whiteboards, A practical guide for primary teachers, Peter Kent clarifies that an IWB is not a substitute for inadequate teaching but allows a teacher of quality to reach their full potential in creating a successful interactive learning environment.

Smartboard

• Uses Notebook software (latest version is Notebook 14 and saves as a .nbk file)

• Vendor for NYC is Teq (check out their site for tutorials and professional development)

Do not use it as a projection system!

• If you are left with nothing else, an interactive whiteboard requires interaction by students.

• I included a picture of “bubble wrap” to remind you of how we all enjoy the tactile experience of popping bubble wrap!

Get your students up to the board!
