Designed for ultimate securement and uncompromising care
Secures, protects and stabilizes3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing
with Comfort Adhesive Technology is rated by
clinicians to perform similarly to Bard® StatLock®
Stabilization Devices. In fact, 89 percent of clinicians
rated Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement dressing
similar to StatLock® devices combined with a transparent
film dressing in stabilizing peripheral I.V. catheters.*
Without the bulk of an anchor device, it provides sure,
secure and stable catheter protection.
Holds and releases while preserving skin integrityThis dressing, however, gives clinicians the key
to offer even more: adherence that helps preserve
skin integrity during wear and then removes gently,
improving patient comfort and minimizing trauma to
tender catheter sites. And with its innovative moisture
management and long wear time, it is an exceptional
alternative to other catheter-securement methods.

The elements of advanced securement
ultimatesecurement Unlocked
The features of 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing work together to secure catheter sites with a holding power similar to more cumbersome securement devices.
Force-shifting notchThe dressing’s notch shifts the pull force
from the dressing’s edge to its centre, then
across the dressing. The notch not only
enlists the entire dressing in securement,
but its depth also diminishes the risk of
catheter dislodgement.
Pressure-sensitive adhesivesThe dressing’s pressure-sensitive adhesives
flow into the irregular surface of the skin.
Applying the dressing with firm pressure
thus puts more adhesive in contact with
a greater amount of skin surface for
better securement.
Stabilization border and tape stripsThe strength of the reinforced border
enhances stabilization, while the dressing
remains flexible and conformable. The
addition of sterile tape strips, applied
according to recommended best practices,
allows the dressing to withstand
an additional one and a half pounds
of pull force.*
NOTE: 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing is not indicated to replace sutures for short-term C.V.C. catheters (e.g. jugular, subclavian, femoral).

Two innovative adhesives provide excellent
hold, even under moist skin conditions.
The firmer, patterned adhesive secures
and protects the catheter and channels
moisture from the skin, facilitating
efficient moisture evaporation through
the dressing’s breathable film. A
complementary adhesive along the border
provides added dressing securement.
Although the adhesives build in strength during
the first 24 hours after application and secure
throughout wear time, both remain gentle on
skin and release comfortably upon removal.
Patterned film adhesive holds strongly,
manages moisture and releases gently

Figure 2: Removal force compared to that of standard transparent fi lm dressing and tape
3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing 1685 plus tape
strips can withstand a pull force greater than two times that of a standard
transparent fi lm dressing plus tape strips.* The measure of failure in this
test was when the P.I.C.C. catheter moved one centimeter. Dressing 1685
handled over two times the removal force when immediately placed on skin.
The dressing’s comfort adhesive technology increases adherence to the
skin over the fi rst 24 hours of application, further enhancing securement.
Figure 1: Removal force compared to that of standard transparent fi lm dressing and tape
Compared to standard transparent fi lm dressing plus tape strips,
3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing 1683 plus tape
strips withstood nearly twice the pull force when securing a P.I.V.*
The measure of failure in this test was when the catheter moved
one centimeter.
Comfort adhesive technology
Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing (1683) provides nearly
2x the P.I.V. catheter securement of standard transparent fi lm dressing in resisting pull force.*
Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement dressing outperforms against standard transparent fi lm dressing*

Improved patient care and clinician confi dence
Caring for I.V. patients means more than
providing strong securement. It also means
promoting skin integrity, managing patient
anxiety and fostering a patient’s lifestyle.
Unlike aggressive securement devices such
as Bard® StatLock® Stabilization Devices,
low-profile 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced
Securement dressing holds securely,
minimizing the risk of dislodgment while
preserving skin integrity. It then removes
gently without the use of harsh chemicals
or alcohol, further protecting against
trauma. And the waterproof film means the
dressing may be worn while showering.**
Unlocking gentleness
With improved securement and patient
comfort, patients and clinicians benefi t from
3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement
Dressing for catheter-site care*.

** Recommend using a waterproof cover over the dressing
and I.V. site when showering.
effective care Unlocked
Safeguarding patients
The dressing’s film allows for effective
oxygen-vapour exchange while helping
protect against external contaminants,
including those most commonly
associated with catheter-related
bloodstream infections.
9
Supporting infection prevention
Offering simplicity and affordabilityEasy to apply and with a continual visual-
ization of the insertion site, the dressing has
a border that is protected by transparent
film, so it resists soiling. And as clinicians
have requested, a special coating allows
for the removal of the stabilization tape
strips for easy access to the hub without
removing the dressing. These features
make it a simple, efficient choice, potentially
diminishing dressing waste and the need for
frequent changes or catheter restarts.
Its ability to stay secure on moist skin,
including that of diaphoretic patients, also
reduces the need for unscheduled dressing
changes and supports longer wear times.
