The Tripos appeared in Sir Walter Scott’spublication as it was attributed to Jonathan Swiftmainly as a result of the book by Rev. John Barrett,Vice-Provost of Trinity College, Dublin (1806 - 1821)entitled “An Essay on the Earlier Part of the Lifeof Swift” published in 1808.

You will note that the majority of the footnotesare from Rev. barrett’s book and their purpose is toidentify the individuals referred to in the Tripos .

The consensus subsequently was, as you can seefrom my Paper, that the Tripos was not written bySwift and did not appear in later editions of thecompilations of Swift’s works by Sir Walter Scott.
