- Enable the technical coordination of the Internet infrastructure

- Ensure neutrality and impartiality- Provide a consistent contact point

• Had three members of staff!

• Anyone can become a member• Incorporated in the Netherlands, governed by

• One of five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs):- Service region: Europe, the Middle East and parts of

Central Asia- Allocates and assigns IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and also

assigns AS numbers

• RIPE Database• Secretariat for the RIPE community• Outreach, training, k-root, routing database,

measurement network, ENUM delegation coordination

• The RIPE NCC does not accept or reject policies

• The NRO enables the RIRs to act collectively to:- Facilitate global technical coordination of the Internet- Protect the unallocated pool of Internet Number

integrity of the Internet
