iMovie® Tutorial for

Chapter 14 TIE-into Practice Exercises

A Sample iMovie® Tutorial The Technology Integration Example (Personal Fitness Plans You Can Live With) at the beginning of Chapter 14 showed how teachers might have students create videos that depict healthy lifestyles. Having students use this strategy can be helpful in many kinds of health and physical education activities. Using the tutorial below, create an iMovie product like the example shown here to learn how to do such a video.

Required System Settings

1. This tutorial assumes that you have installed Apple iMovie® on your computer and have the necessary video equipment and cables required by the program.

Follow the steps below to create the movie shown above. 1. Open the tutorial file

1.1 Click File > Open Project…

1.2 Locate the Tutorial iMovie Project File on the Student DVD

1.3 Click Open

2. Edit the clip

2.1 Drag Clip01 to the Movie Timeline

2.2 Move the right-hand Crop Marker below the Scrubber Bar to the beginning of the serve (approximately 01:03).

2.3 Click Edit > Clear

2.4 Move the right Crop Marker to the far right of the Scrubber Bar

2.5 Move the left Crop Marker to the end of the serve scene (approximately 02:17). Press the Delete key to clear the clip

2.6 Click the bottom of

the clip and rename the clip “serve”

3. Compiling the movie and adding transitions

3.1 Drag down the remaining clips in the order shown

3.2 Click the Trans button

3.3 Drag the Overlap transition between the serve and look clips

3.4 Continue dragging down transitions until there is one between each clip

3.5 To view the movie, click on the first clip (serve), hold down the Shift key, and click the last clip (happy). 3.6 Click the Play button

4. Creating titles

4.1 Click Titles

4.2 Select Zoom for the title style

4.3 Enter text as shown

4.4 Drag the title to the beginning of the movie

4.5 Add a transition between the title and the first clip

4.6 Add an ending

5. Modifying clip speed 5.1 Click the

Timeline Viewer

5.2 Move the Zoom slider to the far left

5.3 Click on the last clip (happy) to select it

5.4 Move the speed slider two marks to the right

6. Sounds 6.1 Click Audio

6.2 Open Skywalker Sounds Effects by clicking the triangle

6.3 Select Outdoor Boo

6.4 Drag the sound clip to the sound track area under the net clip, as shown

6.5 Drag the Outdoor Cheer sound clip below and at the beginning of the happy clip

6.6 Add a second Outdoor Cheer sound clip overlapping the first, as shown.

7. Saving the completed movie 7.1 Click File > Share…

7.2 Select QuickTime

7.3 Select Full Quality DV for the best results. Note the file size

7.4 Click Share

Note other output options.

7.5 Enter a file name

7.6 Click Save

8. Saving the project

8.1 Click File > Save Project…

9. Starting a new project from a video stored on a camera

9.1 Click File > New Project…

9.2 Enter a file name

9.3 Click Save

Note: Connect your digital video camera to your Macintosh computer through the FireWire port. See your camera and computer literature for specific details.

Note: Camera actions (play, rewind, etc.) are controlled here.

9.4 Be sure that the selector switch is moved from editing to camera mode

9.5 Click the Play arrow to view the video

9.6 Click the Import button to bring in video clips

Note: Imported clips appear here.

9.7 Move the selector switch to the edit mode to create your movie. See the beginning of the tutorial for details
