To boot from cd if you have OS problems.
Play music.
Watch films.
Burn data to disk.
Backup or save system/Data from computer.
A CD/DVD Drive is a device
that is connected to the PC’s
motherboard via a cable. It
gets power directly from the
computers (PSU)
The main purpose of a hard drive is for data storage.
For a computer system to properly function, it needs a storage unit to store and install data.
You can save Software
Documents
Photos/ music
A hard drive is a fixed disk drive that
stores digital data onto magnetic
surfaces.
IDE HARD DRIVES attach to the mother
board using a ATA cable.
SATA HARD DRIVES attach using a SATA
cable or Ribbon.
It gets power directly from the
computers (PSU)
The computer case holds and protects the computer components within the case.
Each case is different depending on the hardware inside the case.
The power supply pulls the required amount of electricity and converts the AC current to DC current.
It regulates the voltage to eliminate spikes and surges common in most electrical systems.
The PSU sits inside the computer
case.
It provides power to every
component within the case either
directly or indirectly.
Each component has a specific
cable coming from the PSU.
RAM is a memory that the microprocessor uses to store data during processing.
When a software application is launched, the executable program is loaded from hard drive to the RAM.
However RAM will loose all data on shutdown unlike a H/D
RAM is needed because hard drives are too slow to operate with the speed of a microprocessor.
Memory units or (RAM) are placed
in to specific slots on the computer
motherboard.
RAM comes in different forms
however every PC will need some
form of RAM to operate.

To process all data within your computer.
The better the processor the faster your machine will run.
The processor sits on the motherboard and is attached to every part of your computer.
The CPU (central processing
unit) is in charge of processing
data. It is also known as the
processor or microprocessor.
Data travels through various
components of the computer
before it reaches the CPU for
processing. It starts at the hard
disk drive, then to the RAM and
finally to the CPU.
The main role of a motherboard is to attach all components to the processor.
For a computer system to properly function, it needs to have all parts communicating with each other.
The motherboard can be seen as the backbone of a computer.
The Motherboard is a printed circuit
board containing the principal
components of a computer or other
device, with connectors for other circuit
boards to be slotted into.
There are several different ways a printer can connect to the computer.
USB
CAT 5
Serial port
An external piece of hardware that is
responsible for taking computer data
and generating a hard copy of that
data.
Printers are one of the most used
peripherals on computers and are
commonly used to print text, images,
and photos.
Can connect to a computer network in remote areas.
This card will fit into the motherboard and with the relevant software will connect to a wireless signal.
A wireless PC card is a gadget that
enables wireless connectivity to the
internet.
This adapter will have the capacity
to fit into the computer via a PC
Card or PCI slot
A keyboard is an important device that allows a person to enter symbols like letters and numbers into a computer.
It is the main input device for most computers.
A mouse is a device that controls the movement of the cursor on a display screen.
Both devices can be attach to a pc in many ways
Usb
Wired (PS2)
Keyboards and mice come in many
different varieties. Whether it be
an internet keyboard, wireless
combo, or you’re looking for a
gaming set, all these options are
available.
There are 3 types of mice
Optical
Optomechanical
mechanical
A computer Monitor is a device
that displays signals on a
computer screen.
• Monitor's come in all different
shapes and sizes.
• Monitors get their power from a
240v wall socket.
• They are attached via VGA /dvi lead
or HDMI cable direct to the
computers motherboard.
You will produce your own diagram giving examples.
Produce you own image using labels
