• For students- Start now - Visit career placement office - Visit employers experience work environments - Job fairs and career days- Network with massage therapists

Resume

• Clean and easy to read• Overview of job history

- avoid too much detail - list relevant skills & talents

• One page if possible• Email address and contact phone number• References if requested

Cover Letter

• Customize• Describe interest in position• Brief overview of skills/experience• Be humble

Pre-Interview Prep

• Learn about employer- service offerings and retail items - main clientele- history, vision/mission statement- visit their website or location

Interview Prep

• Practice for your interview• Key attributes• Prepare questions

Dress for Success

• Understand the employer and the clientele• Tone down creative touches• Conservative• Remove face piercings and cover tattoo• Hair, fingernails, body odor, breath and make-up

Interview Day

• Know - interviewer’s name & title• Allow for travel time• Arrive early• Be positive

Verbal Interview

• Smile• Eye contact• Shake hands with confidence• Be sincere• Listen• Respond to all questions• Ask for overview of job position

Interview Mistakes

• Acting bored or cocky • Not dressing appropriately • No knowledge of the company • Active cell phones or electronic devices • No questions• Jumping to salary requirements• Unprofessional photos/content from social

networking pages, web pages, blogs, etc.

The Practical Interview

• 50 minutes or 60 minutes- be ready for your hands-on performance

• Practice massage flow prior

The Practical Interview

• Interviewer is a client - intake process- areas of concern, pressure, etc.- avoid talking unless addressed- quality of touch- body mechanics/posturing- draping - modesty- flow/connection

Practical Interview Mistakes

• Sloppy and/or revealing draping• Talking• Offending body odors• Not addressing requests• Inappropriate techniques• Over/under 50/60 minutes

Post Interview Strategies

• Send a thank you note• Follow up
