Sexual discrimination

“It is bad enough with the incapable referees and linesmen we have but if you start bringing in women, you have big problems”

"She shouldn't be here. I know that sounds sexist but I am sexist. This is not park football, so what are women doing here?"

• Mike Newell (Football manager).

Discrimination

• Discrimination has often meant that women are seen as the ‘weaker sex’ and not allowed the same opportunities as men. Many sports have been seen as traditionally male, it is not until just recently their has been a surge in female players to make it the fastest growing sport

• Some women may also find that their religion forbids them taking part fully in sport.
