Given the threat of a tornado strike or other disaster, IU officials determined the need for a fortified Data Center. The Data Center will house and protect the supercomputers Big Red and Quarry, as well as crucial I-Light network infrastructure and data storage equipment, collectively valued at upwards of $50 million.

• Designed to withstand an F5 tornado and other potential disasters
• Increased fire suppression technology
• Advanced security systema rendering of the Data Center, currently under construction
Flexibility The IU Bloomington Data Center will provide almost four times the current available machine room space and ten times the electrical capacity of the current facility.
• Over 80,000 square feet of space• Three 10,000-square-foot machine rooms• Central war room

Building the Future of IT at Indiana University
The Data Center is the first step in a proposed cyberinfrastructure corridor on the east side of Indiana University’s Bloomington campus, which will ensure the digital future of the university in the 21st century.
Plans also include a new CyberInfrastructure Building to house and support IT staff.
