• The budget brought an unprecedented increase of over 50 per cent in its proposed investments to over Rs 1 lakh crore next financial year while presenting the 2015-16

• Rs 8.56 lakh crore investment plan for the period 2015-2019

• To increase daily passenger carrying from 21 million to 30 million in the next 5 years

• Targeted to increase the track length by 20% kms over next 5 years

• To increase freight carrying capacity from 1 billion to 1.5 billion tones in 5 years

Key highlights

• Toll free number 182 to be launched for women protection and safety issues

• “Operation 5 minutes” and hot button for purchase of universal tickets

• Online booking of retiring rooms and wheelchairs on select stations

• Prabhu said Railways goal is to increase connectivity in Northeast and J&K

•   Now you can book your train tickets 120 days in advance.•  Suresh Prabhu said the Railways would provide WIFI facilities at

400 stations.• The minister said Railways will remove over 3,000 unmanned

•  Spend 94 paisa of every rupee earned, leaving a surplus of only 6 paisa.

• 1200 crore Kerala • 145 crore for Kanjikode coach factory• 12 bridges for Kerala rail development• 5 crore for agamali-sabari rail way• 17 crore for survey and project• 200 crore for infrastructure development• No new hope………..
