PROBLEMS IN THE TARGET VILLAGES IN TEHRI GARHWAL DISTT OF UTTARAKHAND STATE IN SUB-HIMALAYAN REGION OF INDIA

• Climate Change has affected the project areas• Shifting weather patterns is getting unpredictable• Soil is getting degraded• Agriculture Production is affected• Livelihood of local people affected• Men leave villages to earn livelihoods in the cities due to

shrinking opportunities • Women are affected most as they stay in the villages with

children and old people and manage agriculture, animal husbandry and domestic chores

• They face domestic energy and water problems so have to walk longer distances to fetch firewood and water

PROMOTION OF SUSTAINABLE ECO-VILLAGE DEVELOPMENT (SEVD)

• WAFD together with it’s technical partner INSEDA is finding climate change mitigation solutions through Promotion and implementation of integrated EVD project,

• Advantage of taking village as the smallest unit for promoting sustainable EVD can be easily replicated in other villages.

• Design, develop and promote affordable low cost green technologies that are most appropriate to the region to mitigating the negative impact of climate change,

• Teach women to implement these Technologies for energy, water and food security are the key objective of the EVD project

• Other objective are income generation for sustainable livelihood improve quality of life the women and family, and

• Improve environment of target village as well as demonstration models for surrounding villages
