USDA and P4P – Connecting Farmers to

Beneficiaries included those affected by HIV-AIDS , school-feeding and refugees
Challenges and Lessons Learned
Tanzania P4P: “transactions are informal, farmers are typically price takers and there is no adherence to a transparent grading system and no incentive to invest in quality produce”
Haiti Cash : “implementing such a new and large scale program within a difficult social and economic environment in the aftermath of a large humanitarian disaster”
Challenges Continued…
Kenya LRP: Defaults due to rising prices
Sudan Vouchers: Preparatory time needed before actual implementation
SuccessesAvailability and use of diverse toolbox to
meet diverse needs in complex environments
Facilitating the shift from food aid to food assistance
