HPCL’s Contribution in Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan

HPCL over last three years has adopted Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan as a way of life to fulfil

the dream of Clean India as envisioned by Honorable Prime Minister of India.

The approach of HPCL towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has been of holistic intervention

which includes primarily the creation of infrastructure to promote sanitation and

maintenance, sensitization and awareness generation on cleanliness and sanitation.

Under this approach, a multi-pronged strategy is used involving all stakeholders of HPCL

such as customers, employees, dealers and distributors, suppliers, CSR partners etc. Some

of the initiatives taken under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan are:

More than fourteen hundred school toilets have been constructed under Swachh

Vidyalaya Abhiyan in multiple states. The efforts of HPCL under Swachh Vidyalaya

Abhiyan have ensured sanitary facilities for more than 1.5 lakhs boys and girls from

remote rural areas of the country.

Thousands of activities for awareness and sensitization were taken up wherein

multiple activities including cleanliness drives, walkathon, street plays, school

functions, and community based activities were conducted by employees in

collaboration with various agencies.

HPCL observed National Cleanliness Campaign in 2015 and Swachhata Pakhwada in

2016 which witnessed mass participation and became a platform for sensitizing large

number of people on importance of cleanliness.

Community Toilets were constructed in urban slums to counter open defecation and

promote health and hygiene.

Swachhata Rath was launched for awareness generation on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Tree plantation drives were taken around company’s operational areas

HPCL is also collaborating with various Municipal Corporations and is supporting different

cleanliness initiatives including installation of garbage collectors, providing compactor

vehicles, repairing of drainages etc. HPCL under Swachh Iconic Places initiative is

supporting Municipal Corporation of Amritsar to improve the sanitation facilities to

Global standards at Golden Temple Amritsar through multi-stakeholders’ initiatives.

Waste to Fuel Plant (generation of fuel from waste materials) is also being set up at Ajmer

under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
