Multicultural Point Credit Classes

For multicultural credit will no longer be separated into categories of specific and general.

You will need to submit the multicultural application in addition to the general class proposal.

Must meet 4 of these 7 Requirements

Provide general information on the concepts of culture, assimilation, acculturation, and identity formation as a means to eliminate stereotypes;

Provide information and strategies to counter stereotypes and infuse culturally relevant and responsive content into curriculum;

Provide educational research and instructional strategies applicable to student diversity;

Additional requirements Provide strategies to integrate diversity, human

relations and equity concepts into units of study; Provide in-depth study of one or more of the

specific identity or demographic groups; Address the history, achievements and issues

related to the experiences of one or more identity or demographic groups;

Provide detailed information about prejudice and discrimination and their consequences.

Syllabus-Class Description Describe class in 1-2 hour sections. Give enough detail that we know what

you are doing and include what the participants will have to do.

Tie the activities together and refer back to your goals so it is not just a list of activities.

Homework-Outside Assignment You must estimate the hours for each

each part of the homework so it add up to the required hours.

Describe each assignment in enough that the Committee will be able to understand why an assignment was estimated for that amount.

Homework should be the college level you should present clear expectations of what you expect and the deadline for submission.

Part of the homework should include a lesson plan based on what was presented in the class if it is appropriate to the topic of the class.

Homework #37 & #38 You may want to insert the homework

assignments within your syllabus #37 with several class sessions and just put a summary in #38.

If you are using a weekend format with homework due a month after the class, put all the information in #38.

Completion Make a copy of the roster and mail the

roster and completed upper portion to the office addressed listed.

Make sure your course number is correct.

The employee number must be correct. The date you sign must be

the same or after the completion day of the course.

The Completion Date The course is complete when the homework is

turned in or the last day of class whichever is later.

Generally participants should have a 4-6 weeks from the first day of class to complete their homework.

Your assigned due date is the completion date unless HW is late.

Give people with late homework a completion date based on when you receive the homework.

When stating your objectives: Include a summary of the activities and

the expectations you have for the participants so it is clear What your course is designed to do. How it will accomplish those goals.

Make sure it all connects back to the standard you have chosen.

Guidelines for Speakers and Controversial Issues

Attachment D must be filled out for all speakers that are not LAUSD employees.This ensures that vendors will not be speaking and doing sales pitches for their products among other things. (See back of Attachment D)
