How  to  Survive    Your  Festive  Office  Party

The  Once  –  A  -‐  Year  potential  nightmare  evening!  Read  on  for  tips  on  how  to  let  your  hair  down  and  enjoy  the  night  without  the  fear  of  needing  to  look  for  a  New  Job  for  the  New  Year!

Confirm  you  are  attending

Even  if  you  would  rather  be  at  home  in  front  of  the  TV,  make  the  effort  and  earn  brownie  points  with  the  boss.

Partners?

Are  partners  invited  to  join  in  the  celebrations?  If  so,  would  yours  be  an  asset  or  a  liability?  If  unsure,  best  to  attend  alone.

Dress  Code

Always  check  the  venues  dress  code  in  advance.  Make  an  impression,  but  for  the  right  reasons!  Revealing  necklines  and  inappropriately  short  skirts  are  best  avoided,  for  women  and  men!

Take  cash  with  you  Not  every  Christmas  party  will  have  a  complimentary  bar  these  days.  Also  ensure  you  have  enough  for

the  taxi  fare  home  if  necessary.

Arrive  on  time  Turning  up  half  way  through  the  meal  will  appear  rude.  Don’t  attempt  to  attend  any  other  events  in

the  same  evening.....leaving  early  won’t  go  down  well  with  the  boss.

Mingle    Try  to  speak  to,  and,  more  importantly,  listen  to  everyone  in  the  room  at  some  point  during  the  party.

Avoid  talking  shop  all  evening,  but  equally  stay  away  from  gossip.

Drink  sensibly  Ensure  you  pace  yourself  from  the  start.  Try  to  alternate  alcoholic  drinks  with  glasses  of  water  and

know  your  limits.  Avoid  mixing  drinks  and  drinking  games.

Avoid  romantic  liaisons  It  may  seem  like  a  great  idea  at  the  time,  but  it  will  appear  unprofessional  to  others  and  you  will  have

to  work  with  them  once  the  party  is  over.

So  remember  these  points  and  enjoy  your  office  Christmas  party............it’s  your  chance  to  experience  your  boss’s  hospitality  and  appreciation  of  your  work!
