Agenda• Short introduction to motivation and e-learning• Our research

– Factors we investigated– Method– Findings

• How to inspire intristic motivation• About our e-learning• Summary

Short introduction

E-learning

+ saving money on 1 person

+ saving time of learning+ saving time and costs of

travel and accommodation

+ the same quality and content for great amount of participants

- huge costs and time for implementation

- technological boundaries

- high level of beraking the learning becasue of low motivation of participants

Motivation to learn by e-learning

Extrinsic motivation Intrinsic motivation

- activity is the aim itself- enjoy - fancy it

- diploma good test- results- searching for an answer to a specific problem

Where can we find the drivers?

Our research

Factors we investigated• Depended variables

– Intrinsic motivation– Behavioural intention

• Predictors/ independent variables

Method

Online questionnaire:– About 100 items– 175 participants– EFA

• Table shows significant predictors of intention to future use of e-learning• Stepwise method of linear regression was adopted• Four predictors explain 65% of variance of intention

Practical resultsManagers- 10 modules, 23

lesson, 17 hours learning

- in average participants made 74% of learning

- In 48 % complited in total

Office workers- 8 modules, 20 lesson,

12 hours learning- in average

participants made 96 % of learning

- In 86 % complited in total

Why we succeeded? Our e-learning

Our e-learning• in each lesson a story revolves

around the learning content and we learn together with the characters

Ann is conscientious

and sometimes

clumsy

Eve is stubborn

and enterprising

Madeleineis wise and but

too critical

Mark is a simple gay with rules

Witold is charming

and conceited

Thomas is calm and a little bit

slowly

CHARACTERS

They have problems but they solve them. They quarrel but they come to an agreementThey have they own likes and dislikes ….

…like in normal life or in normal comedy serialThey learn in the a lesson and a participant learns with them.

What people like the most?

• Each factor contains 5 items rating on Likert scale from 1 to 7• Colourful lines link factors statistically different at level p<0,01 (test t)• People like the most two features of our e-learning: plot (series convention) and the cartoon convention (animation)

Summary…

How to inspire intrinsic motivation

• Take care about your platform features (interesting content, good design etc.)

• Make your content usefull• Give people autonomy• Make you platform user friendly

Best solutions are holistic…
