How do Drugs and addictions affect a person??

Aaron StrobehnPer. 8

It Involves The Following

• Frequent self-destructive behaviors• Shame/Denial/making excuses• Unable to stop for any reason

Three Stages

Stage 1

• Person experiences joy/euphoria induced by substance/activity. This is the (HOOK).

Stage 2

• The brain does not return to its normal state. A low pain is felt. The changes in the brain causes you to feel pain when the drug wears off. So then you take more. This is especially dangerous for teens as their brain is still under construction. Continued use can lead to brain damage.

• If you can quit by this point it is relatively easy. Especially if they are faced with unpleasant consequences.

Stage 3

• This is the disease stage. The addict is controlled by the substance of choice. Nothing matters more than satisfying their desperate need.

• The drug becomes their primary focus… and life is just a distraction that’s always trying to prevent them from doing what they constantly want to do. This stage also involves higher doses of drugs or a stronger drug.

• Change in the brain caused by addiction make it difficult for the addict to be honest about their condition. Lying becomes the rule of thumb because addiction changes the way the addict thinks.

Addiction Cycle

Short Term Gratification

• You feel that the drug is (good for you). It’s the feel good now short term gratification.

Long-Term Pain And Dysfunction

• Short term gratification is always followed by long term pain. This pain is from the withdrawal and the inability to cope psychosocially without the drug. This is the direct consequence of using addictive chemicals.

Addictive Thinking

• Addictive thinking begins with obsession and compulsion.

• This then leads to denial and rationalization on order to allow continued use.

• Denial is inability to recognize there problem. • Rationalization is blaming others for their

situation rather than themselves or the drug.

Increased Tolerance

• Without you being aware of what is happening, more and more of the drug is required to produce the same effect.

Loss of Control

• The obsession and compulsion is so strong that you cant think of anything except for the next fix. You become so stressed and uncomfortable until finally the urge to use is so strong that you can’t resist it.

Results

• DRUGS AND OTHER ADDICTIONS ARE BAD (D:<)

• Depending on the type of drug and how affects your body differently will eventually leads permanent damage physically or physiologically.
