1986 The Automatic Multiple Site Select (AMSS) system begins to be operational The 1st wide-area, 800 MHz trunked communication system in North America Provided multiple talk-groups, i.e. Dispatch, TACH1 Provided more efficient use of the same frequencies Provided Emergency button capabilities, private call, and paging1999 – 2000 Upgraded AMSS from Type 1 to Type 2 AMSS 1 technology was no longer supported

Then 9/11 happened.....

...and the way we look at communications changed.
