NEW DELHI: Indian armed forces

personnel, who need to be quar-

antined after coming back from

leave or temporary posting, will

not be required to undergo coro-

navirus disease (COVID-19)

testing before, during and after

the quarantine period unless

symptomatic, according to a

revised protocol.

The revised protocol, issued

by the Director General Armed

Forces Medical Services

(DGAFMS), aims to contain the

spread of coronavirus in the

armed forces.

“As per the revised policy,

Indian Army personnel will

undergo 14 days of quarantine

on returning from leave or

reporting on temporary duty/

permanent posting. They will

not be tested before, during or

after quarantine unless sympto-

matic,” Army Spokesperson Col

Aman Anand said.

The revised protocol also rec-

ommended avoiding short dura-

tion duties of up to seven days

unless deemed crucial for the

interest of the services, officials

said.

They said the revised proto-

col has been issued in view of

the evolving pattern of the pan-

demic, new evidence emerging

from new researches as well as

the response of the government

in dealing with the infection.

Under the previous guide-

lines, all personnel coming to

any military station from home

or other stations were man-

dated to go for a 14-day quaran-

tine period if they did not fulfil

certain conditions.

According to the revised pro-

tocol, the 14-day quarantine at

station facilities/ unit segrega-

tion/home will be continued as

in vogue for all personnel

returning from leave or tempo-

rary duty and reporting on per-

manent duty.

The 14-day quarantine period

may be exempted on a case

by case basis as per medical

advice for asymptomatic indi-

viduals with no history of being

in contact with a suspect, proba-

ble or confirmed case of COV-

ID-19 in the preceding 14 days

before travel and those travel-

ling from one duty station to

another without any halts in

between.

According to the revised pro-

tocol, no testing will be required

before, during and after quaran-

tine unless symptomatic.

DEHRADUN: A day after yoga guru

Ramdev promoted Patanjali

Ayurved launched a new Ayur-

vedic product claiming it can

cure Covid-19, the state govern-

ment on Wednesday issued a

notice to its Divya Pharmacy

stressing that the license issued

by it was given for producing

immunity boosters and not COV-

ID-19 medicine.

Divya Pharmacy has been

asked to reply within seven days.

Confirming the development,

Dr YS Rawat, joint director state

licensing authority (Ayush),

said: “We didn’t issue any license

to them for COVID-19 medicine.

They had applied for licence or

immunity booster kits made

from herb extracts from medici-

nal plants like Giloi, Ashwagan-

dha and Tulsi.

“We have now issued a notice

to Divya Pharmacy seeking their

explanation within seven days

over the claims they have made

regarding finding COVID-19

cure. If we do not get a satisfac-

tory response from them, then

their license will be cancelled

soon.”

Anand Swaroop, director of

directorate of Ayurved and

Unani services in the state, said

that they had not given the

license for any COVID ayurvedic

medicine.

Acharya Balkrishna, manag-

ing director of Haridwar-based

Patanjali Ayurved, said on Twit-

ter, “The communication gap

has been resolved...And we have

provided all information to

with the pandemic following the

directions of the World Health

and the surveillance network

was activated and the standard

operating procedures for screen-

ing, diagnosis and public health

interventions were implemented

in accordance with international

guidelines,” Shailaja said.
