CHAPTER 12 – STATE GOVERNMENTS

Under the “Federal System”: • The National Gov’t has powers…. (Expressed)• The State Gov’t has powers…(Reserved)• And They also have some powers at the same

time (Concurrent)

What is an example of a concurrent power?

• I’ll tell you abut the worst one…..

• TAXES – each paycheck we get – the federal government will take out taxes to help fund their government….and the State will take out taxes to help pay for their government….

The Structure is a little different…..

But VERY Similar…..

Jurisdiction

• Now we should probably better undertsand the jurisdiction portion of Chapter 8…..

• The Federal Judicial Branch only looks at certain cases – the State Judicial system interprets all other laws…

PA has its own EXECUTIVE BRANCH

• Led by our very own Governor Rendell
