What does your heart do?

The right side takes in blood from the body and pumps it to the lungs. The left side takes blood filled with oxygen from the lungs and pumps it to the rest of the body.

The heart is made of a special kind of muscle called “cardiac muscle” which never gets tired.

A child’s heart beats about 80 times a minute, a bit faster that an adult’s heart (70 times a minute). When you run or do something exciting your heart beat faster because your muscles need more blood.
