ESSENDON CLUB HISTORY

COLLINGWOOD CLUB HISTORY• Collingwood Football Club was formed in 1892 where it

played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). • In 1897, 8 break away clubs , including Collingwood formed

the now famous Victorian Football League (VFL) which in 1990 became the Australian Football League (AFL).

• From 1892 until 1995 Victoria Park was the home ground of the Collingwood football club. They now play home games at the Melbourne Cricket Centre (MCG) with their business centre based in Richmond at the Westpac Centre.

• Collingwood has the famous theme song ‘Good Old Collingwood Forever’.

• In 2012 Collingwood became the first club to have over 70,000 members and still hold this title of most members today.

• Collingwood have won 15 VFL/AFL premierships, second to Carlton and Essendon’s 16 premierships.

• Collingwood is the only club in the VFL/AFL to play all 118 seasons. All other clubs missed at least one season for differing reasons surrounding war times. Traditional black and

SYDNEY SWANS CLUB HISTORY

• The Sydney Swans were not always known as the Sydney Swans. The red & white began in 1874. The club was originally formed as the South Melbourne Football Club.

• South Melbourne became known as the Swans after an influx of players from Western Australia. They made four consecutive Grand Finals from 1933-1936, but won only one premiership in 1933.

• In 1981 after financial difficulties the VFL allowed the Swans to play 11 home matches in Sydney in the proceeding season.

• In 1982 the Swans moved to Sydney as part of the VFL’s attempt to broaden the games appeal. This resulted in the national AFL competition.

GOLD COAST SUNS CLUB HISTORY

• The Gold Coast Suns, also known as the Gold Coast Football Club formed on the 27 December 2007 by the CEO Andrew Demetriou when the club was granted a provisional licence to join the AFL Competition.

• The team first had their game in 2011 when they entered the pre-season NAB Cup, they didn’t have much success with their overall wins but were determined to keep competing and eventualy started winning their games.

• After the 2011 season, the club held a press conference on the 22 July and announced that they would change their name, logo, club song and new home, away and clash guernseys.

• Guy McKenna was the first appointed coach in August 2008 when the team was to first compete in the AFL league.

The main issue with accessing information from the internet is identifying the accuracy and credibility of the information provided. Unlike traditional publishing, information posted on the internet is not governed and may not be produced by a reputable, professional source. There are no universal standards in regard to posting information on the internet and the information can be easily altered, misinterpreted, plagiarised or completely biased and based on opinion and speculation.We have identified five traits that can assist in validating the credibility of information and have evaluated the sources used in this presentation against this criteria. The five criteria used and are:• Accuracy: Is the website free from errors and can be verified offline?• Authority: Is there a qualified or reputable author or are contact details supplied?• Objectivity: What is the purpose, is the site factual rather than opinion?• Currency: Is the information up to date?• Coverage/ Scope: Is the information comprehensive and in depth?
