ThisisusedtoexpresstheweightofDIAMONDorCBNpercm3.BecausetherearealsoindicationsofconcentrationusedforresinbondCBNgrindingwheelswhicharebasedonthegrossweightofnickelcoatedCBNgrains(60%ofthegrossgrainweightconsistingofnickel),thelastcolumnofthetableabovealsoshowstheseconcentrations,precededbytheletterB.

Concentrationsofupto150areusedforprofilegrindingwheelsandcylin-dricalwheelswhichhaveasmallcon-tactarea.
NeedlesstosaythatTechnodiamantguaranteesthespecifiedconcentrati-ons.
Grit size:DiamondandCBNgritareavailableinmanysizesandtypes.Thegritsizeisdependentuponthedesiredsurfacefinish.Inaddition,thegritsizealsohasanimportanteffectonthegrindingbehaviourofthewheel.
Asfarasthegritsizeisconcerned,TechnodiamantcomplieswiththeFEPAstandard.Youwillfindacomparisontableforthevariousgritsystemsonpage6inthiscatalogue.
Binders:Technodiamanthasalargenumberofinhousedevelopedbindersavailable.Thetypeofbinderisoftenselectedincombinationwiththetypeofgritandconcentration.Bindersaredividedintometal,resinandceramicbinders.Solidmetalbindersareoftenappliedtogrindglassandceramics,whereasresinbinders,porousmetalbindersandceramicbindersareusuallyusedforgrindingtungstencarbidesandhardenedsteel.

The effect of concentration
Thedepthofcuttingforoscillatinggrindingwithforcedfeedingisassociatedwiththegritsizeofthewheelandthefinenessrequiredforthesurface.Thedepthofcutmustalwaysbelessthantheprotrutionofthegritfromthebinder.Forasharpgrindingwheeltheprotrutionwillbe1/4to1/5ofthegritsizeatthemost.However,thegenerationofheatmustbeheldwithincertainlimitsaswell.Whendrygrindingwithalargecon-tactareabetweenthewheelandtheworkpiece,thedepthofcut
mustbemuchlessthanwhengrindingwithasmallcontactarea.Forcreepfeedgrindingthegrindingdepthsettingisnotthesameasthedepthofcut,sincethelatterislimi-tedbythespeedofthetable.Specialmetalandresinwearresistantbindershavebeendevelopedforcreepfeedgrinding.Becausethecontactareabetweenthewheelandtheworkpieceisusuallylargeforthisgrindingmethod,propercoolingisofextremeimportance.
