WHO IS POSEIDON ? Poseidon was the god of the sea, earthquakes and horses. Although he

was officially one of the supreme gods of Olympus, he spent most of his time in his aquatic domain. Poseidon was the brother of Zeus and Hades. These 3 gods divided creation. Zeus became ruler of the sky, Hades obtained the dominion of the underworld and possessed was given all the water, sweet as salty.

SCULTURE OF POSEIDON

After the horrors that Zeus witnessed at the banquet of Lycaon decided that he should end all humanity, however that could have consequences for the gods, there would be no more sacrifices or prayers. Zeus promised the other gods that he would not extinguish the whole human race, he only intended to do

away with all those who did not respect the gods and did not comply with the rituals.

From the top of a hill Zeus was about to throw his lightning upon a city when he remembered the prophecy that the world would be destroyed by the

flames. It was then that he called Poseidon, the water god, that with his power would

cause floods and earthquakes that will kill all humans. The only ones that were saved were Deucalión and Pirra that in the eyes of Zeus they seemed the

parents fit for the new human race.

Deucalion threw stones over his shoulders, and from them were born men and those thrown by Pirra, women.
