BACKGROUND OF THE PROGRAMME

The Department of Fashion & Lifestyle Accessories, NIFT Chennai offers Bachelor in Design

B. Des (Accessory Design), a four year full time degree programme which trains design

professionals for the Indian Fashion & Lifestyle Accessory industry to respond to global fashion

markets with quality design products in the areas of fashion jewellery, precious jewellery,

leather & luxury goods, footwear, tableware & gift-ware, Furniture & lighting accessories,

watches, precious goods and related visual merchandising.

This UG degree programme is one of its kind in the country. It has a well defined curriculum for

developing integrated expertise in design methodology, materials, production processes,

consumer behavior, market dynamics, trends, forecast interpretations, business practices and

project management in the field of Fashion & Lifestyle accessories. A strong industry

orientation is reflected in its credo ‘Design for Business’ with the most successful industry

education interface in student learning.

A close interaction with Indian fashion and accessory industry through various realistic

sponsored industry projects during their training couples with intensive industry internship

training, seminars with industry experts and visits to related trade shows exposes them to the

main stream commerce and constraints of the industry and gives them necessary maturity and

confidence to make constructive contribution in all design related needs of industries engaged

in the international and domestic markets.

FASHION & LIFESTYLE ACCESSORIES

Programme at Chennai has specialized focus on Footwear and Leather products. Tamil Nadu

being the largest producer of leather product caters to both international and domestic

markets. To create a benchmark at the global level, the industry strongly requires professional

design experts in the areas of footwear, leather products and related fashion accessories as well

as ancillary industries, manufacturing related hardware and other components. The Fashion &

Lifestyle Accessories Programme at Chennai is designed to address these issues.

THE GRADUATION PROJECT

In the final semester of the B. Des ( Accessory Design ) programme, the students are

required to carry out the Industrial design collection project of 18 weeks duration. Each

student is expected to work as a design professional with a specific industry. The students

work on the project brief given by the sponsoring client. This involves the application of

various academic inputs given in the Fashion & Lifestyle Accessories programme in the in

the preceding seven semesters.

This project includes research, understanding and communicating the clients profile

product, styling brand image, parameters of product range, materials, costs, techniques,

market and any other related issues that may have bearing on design directions. The project

extends from design to sampling to production of the products.

The project is evaluated by the jury consisting of the Department Faculty, Industrial

Mentor of sponsoring industry, Institutional Mentor, External Mentor Field Expert or

Practicing Designer from the related field and the Centre Coordinator of F & LA

department.

These Industrial design collection projects are showcased either in the form of a Fashion

Show or as Audio- Visual presentations and exhibitions. This is probably one of the most

successful platform on which Fashion Accessory design students and the Fashion Industry

join hands to demonstrate a symbolic interface between the real life industry situation &

professional education in India.

25 year warranty

Wildcraft offers a 25 year warranty for its Signature Series products in line with rolling-

out state-of-the-art products and reinforcing international quality standards. The warranty

covers manufacturing defects only, and does not cover normal wear and tear, and rough

use.

5 year warranty

All other products carry a 5 year carry-in warranty against manufacturing defects only

(not against normal wear & tear and rough use).

CONCLUSION

Working at Wildcraft was a completely different experience for me. Being in an

organization which is completely governed by the directors of the company was a

refreshing project.

Two years from now we can see Wildcraft becoming a major brand name in the

country. At the exponential rate at which they are expanding nothing seems to come

in the way of the three inspirational directors.

At Wildcraft I was given complete independence in choosing my own projects and

coming up with my own ideas which were implemented immediately and tested.

The workers and all the employees at the company were very helpful and we could

never forget the unselfish help they provided in every aspect possible.
