Ways to encourage your child to write more. They can...

Add what were you thinking?

Follow the adventures of WordGirl and her trusted sidekick, Captain Huggy Face, as they fight off evil villains with superhuman powers and learn new vocabulary words.

Write on a post it or

a piece of paper a

while watching WordGirl

Today I want to teach you that readers learn new words from all the books they read! When you see a new word, say the word the best you can, try to figure it out by thinking about what the word could mean. Stop and think about it. You can look for clues in the picture and the other words to understand the new word the best you can.

Click here, kidsa-z.com, and choose a few titles to read on Raz-Kids!

You can read a book in Spanish or English.

When you get to Raz-Kids…

1. Type my teacher username: mrsdiazgrade12. Find and click on your name.3. Your password is the picture of the rocket 4. Click on the Reading Room and find your assignments!5. Start the timer for 15 minutes.

You can take the book quiz when you finish reading!

Dear Family,

In unit 12, your child will be introduced to words with more than one syllable. You should encourage your child to scoop each syllable when the word is read. For example, scoop the word napkin into two syllables like this:

Help show your child to break down these words into syllable parts. Often in school we tell kids to give one clap for each syllable to help them hear each part.

We will be working on multi-syllable words for the next three weeks.

Some words will be compound words, or words that are made up of two word parts. Each part can be a word by itself. For example, in the word ¨sunfish¨ -sun is a word and fish is a word.

Once again thank you for all of your help!
