n  CyberKnife Center of Chicago opened in August 2009 as a service of Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. The center is part of the hospital’s radiation oncology department, which is accredited by the American College of Radiology.

n  The center recently treated its 1,000th patient using CyberKnife® technology, an advanced nonsurgical option for the treatment of malignant and benign tumors.

n  Lung, brain and spinal tumors have accounted for a majority of the center’s large case number. In recent years, CyberKnife Center of Chicago has seen a steady increase in the number of lung cancer patient referrals for those seeking or requesting an alternative to surgery, the disease’s standard form of treatment.

+Hospital Partner: Elmhurst Memorial Health Care

n  The radiation oncology department at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital recently earned a three-year accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR).

n  As the center moves into its fifth year of operation in Chicago’s western suburbs, it will soon find a new home at Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare’s new Center for Cancer Care. The 30,000-square-foot facility will also house medical oncologist offices, an infusion center and radiation oncology services.

n  The new center will bring together all cancer treatment services and facilities, allowing patients to undergo testing, meet with their physician and receive treatment in the same place and possibly the same day.

+Medical Director: Andy Su, M.D.

n  Dr. Su has expertise in Intensity Modulated Radiation Treatments (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), allowing radiation delivery to the tumor while avoiding surrounding normal tissues. He also has extensive training in Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy procedures for breast, gynecologic and prostate cancers.

n  Dr. Su was one of a few selected to participate in the prestigious Howard Hughes Research Scholars Program at the National Institutes of Health.

n  Under Dr. Su’s direction, CyberKnife Center of Chicago is actively involved in the Chicago community at events like Ride Janie Ride, American Lung Association of Greater Chicago’s Healthy Lung Expo and more. For photos of their local efforts, visit our Flickr page!
