Welcome! This is a short introduction to the Global Electronic PartyInformation Registry – GEPIR for short.

What is GEPIR?

Welcome! This is a short introduction to the Global Electronic PartyInformation Registry – GEPIR for short.

The original idea for GEPIR was to connect the contact information held in the databases of the GS1 Member Organisations so that enquiries could be answered more easily.

Since its creation in 1999 and its successes at providing this information, the GEPIR network has grown to be able to do more.

Today, GS1 GEPIR is a unique internet-based service that gives access to basic contact information for companies that are members of GS1

These companies use the GS1 globally unique numbering system to identity their products, locations, shipments, and more.

How GEPIR works

Welcome! This is a short introduction to the Global Electronic PartyInformation Registry – GEPIR for short.

A company called Widgets Inc joins GS1 through its local GS1 Member Organisation

Widgets Inc. is given the information it needs to create GS1 bar codes for its products.

The GS1 Member Organisation stores basic contact information for Widgets Inc. and makes these available by GEPIR.

A person finds a product made by Widgets Inc and is interested to have company contact information.

The person types the bar code number of the product into GEPIR using a computer.
