ENGINEERING CONSULTANCY SERVICES
UTEC Geomarine provides a wide range of consulting geotechnical services over the project life cycle including expert engineering analysis, design and specialist supervision operations.
Consultancy services include:•Desk studies•Survey planning, management and supervision•Front end engineering design (FEED)•Cable route engineering•Geohazard assessment•Trenching and burial assessment•Trenching tool performance assessment•Pipeline engineering•Foundation design •Anchoring assessments•Jack-up rig spudcan penetration analysis (geoPEN software)•Research and development projects
Global Data Base of Seabed Soils
•Worldwide data base of survey reports•Extensive library of published data•Data has been collated and soil province maps have been developed for a range of clients•Results used to assess seabed soils for early planning and survey requirements
GEOTECHNICAL SERVICES
Geotechnical tools:• 15kN geoROV™ system - ROV deployed geotechnical tools
• CPT, T-Bar (typ.3.0m, up to 4.5m)• Push/ Piston/ Liner samplers (typ.1m)• Rotary core drill (typ. 1m)
• geoREACT Suction Skid• geoPC Piston Core Sampler (drop corer)• geoVC Vibrocorer/ Static Piston Corer• 75kN Roson CPT• 100kN DWCPT (deep water CPT) – partnership with TI Geosciences• Robotic seabed drilling (typ. 30-60m) – partnership with Canyon
Laboratory testing and reporting:•Offshore and onshore soils testing
Vessels:•Preference is Client-supplied vessel and ROV/ launch-recovery system•Charter vessels if required
geoROV™
The geoROV system has been developed as a highly cost-effective tool for geotechnical measurement and sampling over a wide range of water depths and soil conditions
Features: » Patented ROV-conveyed seabed testing unit» CPT to 5m (standard 3m) » Sampling to 1m (75mm to 100mm diameter) or 3m (35mm or
65mm)» Water depth to 2500m (5000m version in development)» Real-time data transmission» Easy interface with a standard work class ROV » Hydraulic and electrical power provided by ROV» Pore-pressure dissipation and T-bar measurements
Track record of developing bespoke tooling and sensors for project-specific requirements
ANCILLARY EQUIPMENT
geoREACT - Reaction» geoROV™ relies on reaction from self-weight of ROV and
downwards thrust.» geoREACT incorporates two suction cans that provide
additional reaction» Allows geoROV™ to utilise greater potential thrust capacity» Strength indication
Allows qualitative strength indication High variable seabeds with hard layer may cause
hang up of suction cans. Information over area many times larger than CPT cone effective area
geoCORE» Rotary Core Drill capable of 1.2m core run» TT56 and B56 barrel with options of liners and catchers» Real-time fine control and logging of all drilling parameters
APPLICATIONS
Possible applications include:» In situ and sampling within close proximity of structures which
would otherwise be inaccessible to other SI methods» Pipeline or cable route site investigation» Trenching support» Shallow foundations for subsea structures » Scour monitoring» Pipeline soil resistance to lateral and longitudinal movements» Characterisation of highly variable sites using close-spaced
grid of test locations
