GCSE English – The main

messages:

• This specification is brand new. Our Year Eleven pupils are the first to sit these

examinations.

• There is no written coursework. 80% of the qualification comes from two untiered

examinations at the end of the year; 20% is based on two recorded Speaking and

Listening tasks.

• There are two examinations at the end of the course both 2 hours long.

• Both are heavily reliant on non fiction reading and writing.

• It is a more robust test of English skills; pupils cannot leave everything till the last

minute. They have to be focused right the way through this year in order to build

skills progressively.

• We are all in this together!
