Hadith 2: The Son of Adam’s lies and abuse
Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah Almighty has
said:

Allah the Exalted said: The son of Adam has lied against Me but he has no right to do so, and he has
abused Me but he has no right to do so. As for his lie, it is his saying that I cannot recreate him as I did
before. As for his abuse, it is his saying that I have a son, but glorified am I above taking a wife or a
son.

Hadith 3: Allah gives the rain
Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhaniyy reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, led the
morning prayer for us at al-Hudaybiyah following rainfall during the night. When the Prophet finished,
he faced the people and said to them:
Do you know what your Lord has said?
They said, “Allah and his Messenger know best.” The Prophet said:
This morning one of my servants became a believer in Me and one a disbeliever. As for him who said:
We have been given rain by virtue of Allah and His mercy, that one is a believer in Me and a
disbeliever in the stars. As for him who said: We have been given rain by such-and-such a star, that
one is a disbeliever in Me and a believer in the stars.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah Almighty
said:

Allah the Exalted said: Indeed, I am self-sufficient, in need of no partner. Whoever performs a deed in
which he associates something else with me, I will leave him to his partner.

Hadith 6: Allah knows the hypocrites
Abu Huraira reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say:

Verily, the first of people to have their case judged on the Day of Resurrection will be a man who was
martyred. He will be brought and Allah’s blessings will be made known and he will recognize them.
Allah will say: What have you done concerning these blessings? The man will say: I fought in your
cause until I was martyred. Allah will say: You have lied because you fought so that it would be said
how courageous you are, and it was said. Then Allah will order him to be dragged upon his face into
the Hellfire. Another man learned religious knowledge, taught others, and recited the Quran. He will
be brought and Allah’s blessings will be made known and he will recognize them. Allah will say: What
have you done concerning these blessings? The man will say: I learned religious knowledge, taught
others, and I recited the Quran for Your sake. Allah will say: You have lied because you learned
religious knowledge so that it would be said you are a scholar and you recited the Quran so that it
would be said you are a reciter, and it was said. Then Allah will order him to be dragged upon his face
into the Hellfire. Another man was given an abundance from Allah and was given every kind of
wealth. He will be brought and Allah’s blessings will be made known and he will recognize them. Allah
will say: What have you done concerning these blessings? The man will say: I spent money in every
cause upon which You wished it to be spent. Allah will say: You have lied because you spent money so
that it would be said how generous you are, and it was said. Then Allah will order him to be dragged
upon his face into the Hellfire.

Hadith 7: Allah delights in a humble servant
Uqbah ibn Amir reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say:
عع ظروا إلى عبد هذا يؤذ ن ويويم الصلة وجل ان يعجب ربك من راعي غنم في رنس شظية الجبل يؤذ ن بالصلة ويصل ي فيوول الل
يخاف من ي قد غفرت لعبد وندخلته الجنة
Your Lord delights at a shepherd who, on the peak of a mountain, gives the call to prayer and prays.
Then Allah the Exalted will say: Look at this servant of Mine, he gives the call to prayer and performs
the prayers, for he is in awe of Me. I have forgiven My servant for his sins and have admitted him to
Paradise.

Hadith 8: Recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
من صلى صلة لم يورن فيها بأم الورآن فهي خداج ثلثا غير تمام
A prayer performed by someone who has not recited the foundation of the Quran (surah al-
fatihah) during it is deficient, incomplete.
He repeated these words three times. Someone said to Abu Hurairah, “Even though we are behind the
Imam?” He said: Recite it to yourself, for I have heard the Messenger of Allah say:
تعالى قسمت ال رب العالم قال الل تعالى حمدني عبد ين صلة بيني وبين عبد نصفين ولعبد ما سأل فإذا قال العبد الحمد لل قال الل

Allah the Exalted said: I have divided prayer between Myself and My servant into two halves, and My
servant shall have what he has asked for. When the servant says: Praise be to Allah Lord of the
Worlds, Allah says: My servant has praised Me. And when he says: The Most Gracious, the Most
Merciful, Allah says: My servant has extolled Me. And when he says: Master of the Day of Judgment,
Allah says: My servant has glorified Me, – and on one occasion He said: My servant has submitted to
My power. And when he says: You alone we worship, You alone we ask for help, Allah says: This is
between Me and My servant, and My servant shall have what he has asked for. And when he says:
Guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom you have favored, not those who went astray,
Allah says: This is for My servant, and My servant shall have what he has asked for.

Hadith 9: The first action to be judged is prayer
Huraith Ibn Qabisa reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
ل ما يحاسب به العبد يوم الويامة من عمله صلته فإن صلحت فود نفلح ونن اب وخسر فإن انتوص من فريضته جح وإن فسدت فود خ إن نو
ل بها ما انتوص من الفريضة ع فيكم ب عع وجل انظروا هل لعبد من تطو ثم يكون سائر عمله على ذلك شيء قال الر
The first actions for which a servant of Allah will be held accountable on the Day of Resurrection will
be his prayers. If they are in order, then he will have prospered and succeeded; but if they are lacking,
then he will have failed and lost. If there is something defective in his obligatory prayers then the Lord
the Exalted will say: See if My servant has any extra prayers which can complete what is defective in
his obligatory prayers. Then the rest of his actions will be judged in the same way.

Hadith 10: The virtue of fasting
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
كل عمل ابن آدم له إ ا الص يام، فإنه لي، وننا نجع به .قال الل
Allah the Exalted said: All the deeds of the children of Adam are for them, except fasting which is for
Me, and I will give the reward for it.
The Messenger of Allah said further:
د بيده .ائم تله فليول إن ي امرؤ ص والص يام جنة، وإذا كان يوم صوم نحدكم، فل يرفث و ا يصخب، فإن سابه نحد، نو قا والذ نفس محم
من ريح المسك، للصائم فرحتان يفرحهما إذا نفطر فرح، وإذا لوي ربه فرح بصومه لخلوف فم الصائم نطيب عند الل
Fasting is a shield. If one of you is fasting, he should avoid intimate relations with his wife and
arguments. If somebody should fight or argue with him, he should say: I am fasting. By Him in whose
hand is my soul, the unpleasant smell coming from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight
of Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of
breaking his fast and the other when he meets his Lord; then he will be pleased because of his fasting.

Hadith 11: The virtue of charity
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah Almighty said:

Hadith 12: The virtue of leniency
Abu Mas’ud al-Ansari reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
ن كان قبلكم فلم يوجد له من الخير شيء إ ا ننه كان يخالط الناس وك يتجاوعوا عن ان موسرا فكان يأمر غلمانه نن حوسب رجل مم
عع وجل نحن نحق بذلك منه تجاوعوا عنه المعسر قال قال الل
A man from the time before you was called to account and nothing good was found with him except
that he was easy-going in his business with people and he would order his servants to be lenient with
those in difficult circumstances. Allah the Exalted said: We are more worthy of such actions, so pardon
his sins.

Hadith 13: Protect yourself from Hellfire by even half of a date
Adi ibn Hatim reported: I was with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and there
came to him two men: one of them was complaining of poverty, while the other was complaining of
robbery. The Messenger of Allah said:
As for the obstruction of the roads, it will not be long until a caravan will travel to Mecca without any
guard. As for poverty, the Hour will not be established until one of you goes out looking to give charity
but will find no one to accept it. Each one of you will stand in front of Allah without a barrier or
interpreter between him and Allah. Allah will ask: Did I not give you wealth? He will say yes. Allah will
ask: Did I not send you a messenger? He will say yes. Then he will look to his right and see nothing but
Hellfire, and he will look to his left and see nothing but Hellfire. Therefore, any one of you should save
himself from the Fire by giving even a half of a date in charity, and if you do not have it then say a kind
word.

Hadith 14: The virtue of remembrance
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Verily, Allah the Blessed and Exalted has caravans of angels who have no other work but to follow
assemblies of remembrance. When they find such assemblies in which there is remembrance, they sit
with them and some of them surround the others with their wings until the space between them and
the heaven is covered. When they disperse, they ascend to the heaven and Allah the Exalted asks
them – although he is best informed about them: From where have you come? They say: We came
from Your servants on earth who were glorifying You, declaring Your greatness and oneness, praising
You and asking from You. Allah will say: What do they ask from Me? They say: They ask You for Your
Paradise. Allah will say: Have they seen My Paradise? They say: No, our Lord. Allah will say: What if
they were to see My Paradise? They say: They seek Your protection. Allah will say: From what do they
seek My protection? They say: Our Lord, from the Hellfire. Allah will say: Have they seen My Hellfire?
They say: No. Allah will say: What if they were to see My Hellfire? They say: They ask for Your
forgiveness. Allah will say: I will pardon them, give them what they ask, and grant them protection.
They say: Our Lord, there is one among them, a simple servant who happened to pass by and sat there
alongside them. Allah will say: I also grant him pardon , for whoever sits with these fellows will not
suffer.

Hadith 15: The virtue of repentance
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
نفرح بت لل عع وجل ننا عند ظن عبد بي وننا معه حيث يذكرني والل ب إلي شبرا قال الل وبة عبده من نحدكم يجد ضالته بالفلة ومن تور
بت إليه باعا وإذا نقبل إلي يمشي ب إلي ذراعا تور بت إليه ذراعا ومن تور نقبلت إليه نهرول تور
Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: I am as My servant expects Me and I am with him as he
remembers Me. By Allah, Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than how one of
you would be on finding the lost camel in the waterless desert. When he draws near Me by the span
of his hand, I draw near him by the length of a cubit. And when he draws near Me by the length of a
cubit, I draw near him by the length of a fathom. And when he draws near Me walking, I draw close to
him quickly.

Hadith 16: The virtue of good intentions
Ibn Abbas reported: Among the sayings of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,
that he related from his Lord Almighty is that he said:
كتب الحسنات والسي ئات ثم بين ذلك فمن هم بحسنة فلم يعملها كتبها ا إن الل عع وجل لل عنده حسنة كاملة وإن هم بها فعملها كتبها الل
عنده حسنة ك عنده عشر حسنات إلى سبع مائة ضعف إلى نضعاف كثيرة وإن هم بسي ئة فلم يعملها ك املة وإن هم بها فعملها كتبها تبها الل
سي ئة واحدة الل
Verily, Allah has recorded good and bad deeds and He made them clear. Whoever intends to perform
a good deed but does not do it, then Allah will record it as a complete good deed, but if he intends to
do it and does so, then Allah the Exalted will record it as ten good deeds up to seven hundred times as
much or even more; if he intends to do a bad deed and does not do it, then Allah will record for him
one complete good deed, but if he does it then Allah will record for him a single bad deed.

Hadith 17: Prohibition of oppression
Abu Dharr al-Ghifari reported: Among the sayings of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be
upon him, that he related from his Lord Almighty is that he said:

O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so
do not oppress one another. O My servants, all of you are astray except for those I have guided, so
seek guidance of Me and I shall guide you. O My servants, all of you are hungry except for those I have
fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you. O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I
have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you. O My servants, you sin by night and by
day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you. O My servants, you will
not attain harming Me so as to harm Me, and you will not attain benefiting Me so as to benefit Me. O
My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as
pious as the most pious heart of any one man of you, that would not increase My kingdom in
anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of
you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any one man of you, that would not decrease My
kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and
the jinn of you to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he
requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more than a needle decreases the sea if put into
it. O My servants, it is but your deeds that I reckon up for you and then recompense you for, so let
him who finds good praise Allah and let him who finds other than that blame no one but himself.

The gates of Paradise are opened on two days, Monday and Thursday. Allah forgives every servant
who does not associate anything with him except the person in whose heart is rancor against his
brother. It will be said: look to these until they reconcile, look to these until they reconcile, look to
these until they reconcile.

man who employs a worker and receives a completed job but he does not pay him his wages.

Hadith 24: When Allah loves or hates a servant

When Allah loves a servant, He calls Gabriel and says: Verily, I love so-and-so; you should also love
him. Then Gabriel loves him and makes an announcement in the heaven saying: Allah loves so-and-so
and you should also love him. Then the dwellers of the Heaven also love him and he is honored in the
earth. When Allah is angry with a servant He calls Gabriel and says: I am angry with so-and-so; you
should also be angry with him. Then Gabriel becomes angry and makes an announcement to the
dwellers of Heaven: Verily, Allah is angry with so-and so, so you be angry with him. Thus they also
become angry with him and he is hated in the earth.

Hadith 25: The loyal friends of Allah
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah Almighty

Verily, Allah Almighty said: Whoever shows hostility to a friend of mine, then I have declared war
upon him. My servant does not grow closer to me with anything more beloved to Me than the duties I
have imposed upon him. My servant continues to draw near me with extra works until I love him.
When I love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hands with
which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask something from me, I would surely
give it to him; and if he were to ask me for refuge, I would surely grant it to him. The believer hates
death and I hate to hurt him.

Verily, the one most devoted to Me whom I favor is a believer of simple means and given to prayer,
who has been excellent in the worship of his Lord and has obeyed him in secret, who was obscure
among the people and not famous, whose sustenance was barely sufficient yet he bore this patiently.
Then the Prophet rapped his hand and he said:

Death will have come early to him, and he will have few mourners and inheritors.

Hadith 27: The virtue of martyrdom

Do not regard those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead, rather are they alive with
their Lord, being provided for.
Surah Ali Imran 3:169
Ibn Mas’ud said: We asked about it and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

The souls of martyrs are alive in the bodies of green birds who have their nests in chandeliers hanging
from the Throne of the Almighty. They eat the fruits of Paradise from wherever they wish and they
nestle among these chandeliers. Once their Lord cast a glance at them and He said: Do you want
anything? They said: What more could we desire? We eat the fruit of Paradise from wherever we
wish; Their Lord asked them the same question three times. When they saw that they will continue to
be asked, they said: O Lord, we wish that You could return our souls to our bodies so that we could be
killed in Your way once again. When Allah saw that they had no needs, He left them to enjoy.

Hadith 30: Whoever loves to meet Allah
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates
to meet him.
Aishah said, “O Prophet of Allah, is it because of the dislike of death? For all of us dislike death.” He said:
It is not like this, rather when a believer is given the glad tidings of the mercy of Allah, His pleasure,
and Paradise, then he loves to meet Allah and Allah loves to meet him. When a disbeliever is given
news of the punishment at the Hand of Allah and hardship to be imposed by Him, he hates to meet
Allah and Allah hates to meet him.

A man had indulged himself in sin, so when death approached he enjoined his sons saying: If I die,
then burn me, pulverize me, and scatter me to the winds over the sea, for by Allah, if He is able He will

before his Lord, He said to him: What made you do that? The man said: Fear and awe of You, O Lord.

The believers will gather on the Day of Resurrection and they will say: would that someone intercede
for us with our Lord! They will go to Adam and say: You are the father of humanity, Allah created you
with His Hand, the angels prostrated for you, and He taught you the names of all things, so intercede
for us with your Lord that we may be relieved of this place! Adam will say: It is not fitting for me. Then
he will remember his sin and he will feel shame and will say: Go to Noah, for he was the first
Messenger that Allah sent to the people of the earth. They will go to him and Noah will say: It is not
fitting for me. Then he will remember his request for his Lord to do that of which he had no
knowledge and he will feel shame and will say: Go to the intimate friend of the
Merciful, Abraham. They will go to him and Abraham will say: It is not fitting for me, so go to Moses,
the servant to whom Allah spoke directly and to whom He revealed the Torah. They will go to him and
Moses will say: It is not fitting for me. Then he will remember when he killed a person without right
and he will feel shame in front of his Lord and will say: Go to Jesus, the servant of Allah and His
Messenger, His Word and His Spirit. They will go to him and Jesus will say: It is not fitting for me, so go
to Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, the servant who was forgiven for his past and
future sins. So they will come to me and I will proceed until I ask my Lord for permission and I will be
granted permission. When I see my Lord, I will prostrate for him and He will let me remain in that
state as long as He wills and then I will be addressed: Raise your heard and ask, your request will be
granted, say and your saying will be heard, intercede and your intercession will be accepted. I will
raise my head and praise Allah with a supplication He will teach me and I will intercede. He will fix a
limit for me who will be admitted into Paradise. Then I will come back to Allah again and when I see
my Lord, the same will happen. Then I will intercede and Allah will fix a limit for me who will be
admitted into Paradise, and then I will come back a third and fourth time and it will be said: None
remains in the Hellfire but those whom the Quran has imprisoned and destined to remain forever.

When Allah created Paradise and Hellfire, He sent Gabriel to Paradise, saying: Look at it and at what I
have prepared therein for its inhabitants. So Gabriel came to it and looked at it and at what Allah had
prepared therein for its inhabitants. He returned to Him and said: By your glory, no one hears of it
without entering it. So He ordered that it be encompassed by forms of hardship, and He said: Return
to it and look at what I have prepared therein for its inhabitants. So Gabriel returned to it and found
that it was encompassed by forms of hardship. Then he returned to Allah and said: By Your glory, I
fear that no one will enter it. Allah said: Go to Hellfire and look at it and what I have prepared therein
for its inhabitants. Gabriel found that it was in layers, one above the other. Then he returned to Allah
and said: By Your glory, no one who hears of it will enter it. So Allah ordered that it be encompassed
by lusts. Then He said: Return to it, and Gabriel returned to it and he said: By Your glory, I fear that no
one will escape it.

The Hellfire and Paradise disputed each other. Hellfire said: the haughty and the proud will dwell in
me. Paradise said: What is the matter with me that the meek, the humble among people, the simple
and downtrodden will enter me? Allah said to Paradise: you are My mercy with which I show mercy to
those of My servants whom I will; and Allah said to Hellfire: you are punishment with which I punish
those of My servants whom I will, and both of you will be full. Hellfire will not be filled until Allah puts
His foot over it, and Hellfire will say: Enough! Enough! At that time, all of its parts will be filled
