7th Grade Key Points:
●You will have eight class periods each day.
● Instead of a Study Skills period, you will either have an additional math period for on-level math, or an additional elective period for those enrolled in Pre-AP math.
What is Pre-AP?
● “Pre-AP” stands for Pre-Advanced Placement courses. These courses prepare students for Advanced Placement courses later in high school which can give the student college credit.
● Pre-AP classes are offered in all five core course areas.
Should I Take Pre-AP classes?
Pre-AP Classes are honors-level classes for students capable of handling the following:
- An increased reading load- Sophisticated writing
assignments and projects- Complex problem solving
Why Would I Want to Take a Pre-AP Class?
● To be challenged in your learning
● To be prepared to take AP classes in high school
● To be better prepared for college

GUIDELINES FOR PRE-AP COURSES FOR 2013-2014:Pre-AP students should be:
- Energetic - Involved - Self-motivated - Passionate about learning- Committed for the year- Prepared to do ½ to 1 hour of homework
per class nightly
Course SelectionsYou will choose one from each of
the following sets of courses:● Language Arts OR Pre-AP Language Arts● Mathematics OR Pre-AP Mathematics
(must be in Pre-AP math this year to take Pre-AP math next year)
● Reading OR Pre-AP Reading● Social Studies OR Pre-AP Social Studies● Science OR Pre-AP Science● Physical Education (P.E.), Athletics,
Gymnastics, OR Tennis
Gymnastics and Tennis are offered at off-campus sites. You must have your own transportation to these locations each morning
with classes beginning at 7:00 a.m. A bus will bring you to North Richland after the class is complete each
day. Information concerning tryouts will be
announced later in the spring.
If you will be taking on-level mathematics, not Pre-AP, you
will have math for two periods, and you will select ONE of the following elective groupings:
Two of the following:
● Art (half year)● Career Portal (half year)● Tech Ed (half year)● Theater (half year).
● Band (full year)
● Choir (full year)
OR
If you will be taking Pre-AP Mathematics (you must be in
Pre-AP Mathematics this year), you will have one period of math,
and you will select TWO of the following elective groupings:
Two of the following: ●Art (half year)● Career Portals (half year)● Tech Ed(half year) ● Theater (half year)
● Band (full year)
● Choir (full year)

Before you start to select your courses, you and your parents should look at the 7th grade course selection kit found on the North Richland Middle School website. Click on Administration, then
Counselors, Then registration
Once you have clicked on registration, you can click on this PowerPoint to review the steps with your parents. Once you have reviewed what to do, click on “Kit to register for 7th grade”. This document will walk you through the steps of registering for next year.
Look at your registration worksheet
To Review: You and your parents will go to the North Richland Middle
School web page and click on the “7th Grade Course Selection Kits” link under Registration (counselor’s webpage)
Together, you’ll look at the course descriptions and the worksheet in the 7th grade course selection kit.
Then together you will follow the directions to select your courses in Skyward.
If you have any questions after looking at the course selection kit and talking to your parents, you and/or your parents can email me (Mrs. Holland). My email address is on the NRMS website.
To select your courses you must finish online by
February 17th.After that date, Mrs. Holland will select courses with you in
the computer lab.
