ORGANIZING, EXECUTING AND EXPERIENCING THE NCM
By Aleksandar Elezovic
The year 2010 has been very special for the Serbian Alumni club. We were very honoured and lucky
to be picked to host the National Coordinators Meeting this spring and it's been a very illuminating
experience for all of us.
At first we thought that hosting it would be a lot harder than it actually turned out to be, but that was
only because we underestimated the power of team work and support that JA-YE Alumni is all about.
We, the Serbian team, learned a lot of valuable lessons at that meeting, especially when it came to
taking responsibility, putting your best foot forward and keeping the all important overview.
There were two parts of the meeting I would like to point out as especially important for us: Sharing the
problems each of the representatives had experienced on a national level and discussing them, the
process of trying to contribute to fixing them and learning from each other's mistakes was truly
enlightening. The second factor was brainstorming on "The next European project". That made us
think outside the box and explore the new possibilities and channels of communications that would
help improve the way we share information and give feedback.
Having Serbia being an active part of the NCM was important on much greater scales than just us, the
Alumni. It actually helped us gain strength and enthusiasm to help JA Serbia take a big step in the
right direction, working on developing their programs and projects much faster. We're currently
planning some, for Serbia, new ideas. We're slowly building a strong network of friends and
colleagues; a better future for JA-YE Alumni.
The National Coordinators Meeting (NCM)
is a bi-annual meeting for all member
countries where each is invited to send
two representatives.
The three main goals are:
α Best practice sharing
α Update from ECC on
membership advantages
α Creating inspiration for new
European projects
BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE NCM IN BELGRADE
CULTURE AND LEARNING
A combination of Alumni Serbia’s great motivation to host and the ECCs strategic
goal of facilitating and supporting the creation of new membership countries was
the main motivation behind the NCM in Belgrade.
The experience of arranging this event was full of great learning from both parties.
The host gained several answers to various questions, strongly increased their
association with JA-YE Alumni Europe and increased their motivation. For the
ECC internally it was a great teamwork experience to create such a key event
including an external host coordinating the physical frame. All in all the meeting
came out as a success despite of the challenges faced and the multiple goals.
Each membership country brought home a rich output of increased cross-border
cooperation, new advantages for national members, and a wide range of solutions
for everything from strategic goals to everyday problems.
The ECC is looking forward to host the next NCM in connection to the Alumni
Conference August 2010 – and we hope to see YOU there!

SPRING IN THE AIR, IDEAS EVERYWHERE
By Elena Tosheva
What is the best way to spend the very beginning of spring? Where can you
enjoy the fresh and sunny weather? My personal experience shows that
Belgrade, Serbia is the right place and the NC meeting is the perfect setting
for making new friends and expanding your horizons.
The first National Coordinators Meeting for 2010 took place this April in
Serbia. Gathering with Alumni representing over 6 countries, discussing the
development of our network on national and European level, sharing best and
worst practices were just few of the things which kept us busy for these three
wonderful days.
Our Serbian hosts and the European committee had done an amazing job
organising and planning the whole event. Although presentations and
discussions were taking place from early morning until the very late afternoon
everyone felt energized, motivated and inspired. Topics covered passing on
knowledge to new members, how to enable cross border coordination,
starting European projects, improving communications and how to bestspread the opportunities which we have created. The European website and
newsletter are also initiatives that require everybody’s inputs in order to live
up to the vision we have.
What I have always found amazing about Alumni events is that only a few
days is enough to meet new people and become close friends. Sharing the
same enthusiasm about entrepreneurship, having the vision and dreaming
about changing the world is what brings us every time closer to each other
and strengthens the Alumni network.

MEMBERSHIP OPPORTUNITY:
EUROPEAN FUTURE LEADERS
The European Coordinators Committee is proud to inform you that, in
partnership with JA-YE Europe, we provided 36 members with another
unique membership advantage last month: becoming part of the exclusive
'European Future Leaders', meaning that they are now all part of only 300
chosen extraordinary Europeans.
We are very thankful for all those alumni ambassadors who sent in their CV,
motivations and participated in a survey. Furthermore we can report that the
Brussels based Think Tank; Think Young, is grateful for our support and are
looking forward to continued cooperation in the near future.
To show their gratitude Think Young also provided one ticket to the
European Business Summit in Brussels, where the survey result would be
discussed. We had a draw between the 36 participants and Kristin Hallberg
from Sweden will be representing JA-YE Alumni Europe at this amazing
event, bringing together business leaders and politicians from all overEurope.

JA-YE EUROPE TRADE FAIR 2010
by Maria Carvalho, António Henriques and Ricardo Martins Costa
Junior Achievement Portugal hosted the JA-YE Europe Trade Fair on March 20th, 2010. The event took
place in beautiful Lisbon, the city chosen to host this entrepreneurship fair that involved 300 students
from 23 different countries aged between 15 and 21. JA Alumni Portugal, worked behind the scenes
helping with the organization of the event supplying 53 young Portuguese volunteers to support severalactivities during the three days.
On Friday a treasure hunt gave the students a possibility to discover the heart of Lisbon. They were
divided into groups, each one with one alumnus to guide them. This small adventure started in "Praça do
Município" the Municipal Square, and after a race around town finished at the restaurant "Vossemecê"
where everyone enjoyed a Portuguese meal.
The exhibition took place on Saturday in Centro Comercial Colombo. During the day, students exhibited
and sold their products, and were carefully evaluated by a jury composed with experienced members. In
the evening all the participants attended a gala dinner, where awards for best products in the different
categories were given out.
The objective of this event was to develop the entrepreneurship spirit with all the students thatparticipated. This fair was also an opportunity for both students and alumni to get to know people from
different countries and develop the leadership and cooperation spirit.
This fair was the first project with JA Alumni Portugal ’s support, and as a member I believe this was a
great opportunity to show what one of the purposes of our organization can be.. And let me ask you,
what could be better learning experience than hosting an international event this size?
JA Portugal and JA Alumni Portugal are confident that the students evolved with the project and returned
home with more load of new knowledge, rich in experiences, and with new opportunities in front of them.
NEW INITIATIVE
This year a group of JA-YE alumni are meeting up in
lovely Italy to take part in a combined alumni holiday
and participation in the JA-YE Europe Company of the
Year Competition 2010 held in Cagliari.
The Italian alumni team headed by Davide Delfino
was kind enough to think of their international alumni
friends when volunteers were needed for the event, this
resulted in seven alumni from all over Europe being picked to join the team in
Italy.

Flying High, then send your email address and name to
