Performance Elements and Directions:
Performance
Performing is fun. Your class will love performing and acting out the pages of this book time and time again. This is a fun and easy activity that the entire class can be involved in at the same time.
After reading the book and learning about the story, it’s time to perform! 1. Set up five chairs in the front of your classroom. Set up the chairs so that they are almost touching (as to mimic a log that the
students will be pretending to sit on).2. Choose five students to sit in the chairs.3. Explain to the class that the students in the chairs are the performers and the rest of the class are the audience, however there
will be audience participation.4. To act out the song, use a stuffed animal or puppet frog and hand it to the first student in the first chair. The students in the
audience participate by singing the song along with the performers. The first student with the frog puppet sings along with the class, but when its time for “one jumped into the pool,” the student with the frog jumps from his or her seat into the pool (onto the floor) with the puppet. After he/she is in the pool, they pass the puppet to the next student in line on the chair, and they stay on the floor for the remainder of the song.
5. The process repeats until the song is over. Make sure the students continue to pass the frog to the next student in line after they have jumped safely into the pool. Allow the students to be creative and have fun when jumping – but remember to also be safe. The students will have fun, laugh and enjoy this part of the performance.
6. Remember this is a whole class participation activity so everyone should be singing to the music. 7. Another idea is to add sign language to parts of the song such as:
1. Put up 5 fingers for 5 frogs or 4 fingers for 4 frogs etc.2. Use a sitting gesture for the word “Sat” in “sat on a speckled log”3. Have the students put their hands up to their mouths two times during “yum yum”4. Have the students cross their arms and rub their shoulders with their hands as if they are shivering during “where it was
nice and cool,” etc..8. At the end of each performance have the performers stand up and take a bow. Have the audience clap for the performers. This
encourages the performers to appreciate their performance by standing up in front of their classmates and feeling the energy of their excitement as well as for the audience to learn proper concert etiquette after a performance.
9. Make sure you have a recording of the song “Five Little Speckled Frogs” and enjoy!

2. Speak the words of the rhyme with the students first without any instruments or body movements.
3. Add body movements one group at a time while reciting the words.4. Add all the body movements together as you recite the words to the rhyme.5. After the students are able to recite the words and work together with the body

must all be handled carefully. 7. Repeat the same process of introducing and playing the instruments in a step by
