Federalism• The concept of federalism means

that citizens must answer to at least two governments at the same time

• Those 2 are the Federal (national) Government and the State Government

• This concept helps divide the power not allowing the National government to gain too much power.

Federalism• The biggest shift in power from states

to the federal government was during the Great Depression 1930’s

• There are three main levels of government: National, State, and Local

• All three levels share powers and have independent powers.

• Ex. The right to privacy is not specifically mentioned in The U.S. Constitution, but it is included in state constitutions
