Injury Report Jan 2012- Dec 2012 Trends Suggest

Multiple Back Injuries, Head Injuries, Eye Injuries,

Laceration of fingers, and Hand/Wrist Injuries .

The need for more prevention/awareness to hazards in the workplace.

Emphasis on safety training within the workplace

Standards for Timely Filing Claim

Traumatic Injury- Reported on electronic injury form CA-1 within 30 days of the injury

Occupational Disease- Reported on electronic injury form CA-2 within 30 days of the injury

Time starts when the supervisor is

notified!

Timely Filing Last FECA Council Observation:

Jan 2011- Dec 2011 timely filing wasn’t an issue with only 3 claims identified as untimely out of 48 claims filed!

Jan 2012- Dec 2012 to date we have 54 new injury claims and only 2 were filed untimely. That is awesome!!!

Cost Analysis Chargeback FECA Program is financed by the Employees’ Compensation Fund

Cost derives from previous year injury claims, death claims, temporarily disable, or daily rolls, permanent disable or period rolls.

Cost of compensation for work related injuries are charged annually at the end of fiscal accounting period July to

June

OWCP furnishes each agency with a statement of payments made to the fund.

OWCP provides a listing of the cases and charges on the yearly chargeback bill

Challenged Claims

Injuries must be initially investigated by supervisor!

If claimant case is questionable supervisors must report facts.

We can challenge claims when filing the electronic CA-1 or CA-2 and provide supporting documentation

A safety investigation can either validate or challenge injury claim

There were two claims challenged- one sustained, one accepted!
