CLASS: "The Historical Without theHysterical: Temperament and Pitch" byJim Coleman, Sr., RPT humbly assisted byWes Flinn, RPT and Bill Kaye, RPT

Bill Kaye discussed temperament and historicalpitches and recommended the article A BriefHistory of Musical Tuning, Fidelio Magazine,Volume 1, #1, Winter 1991-92.

Wes Flinn discussed varieties of EqualTemperament (including some of Jim Coleman'stemperaments), mentioned how temperaments started out pure then people adjusted them bynecessity, plus he recommended several books for study.

Jim Coleman, Sr. demonstrated 4 varieties of equal temperament (Equal plus 1/7 Comma MeanTone, EBVT III and Coleman 11 found in Wes's handout) and also had Mark Purney try them outfor us. Then we all got to guess which temperament was on each piano.
