Fabulous Foods

France

◦In France, food is more than satisfying your appetite – it’s more like a religion.

◦ To French people, meal times are a way of bringing people together.

◦ They celebrate with huge feasts, which would include many different kinds of meat,

fish, breads, pastries, cheeses and, of course, all would be washed down with wine!

Traditional French Food

Snails - known as Escargot, they are served as starters and are usually fried in garlic butter and herbs. They are also served with a special fork for picking out the snails from their shells. Snails can taste a bit salty.

Frogs Legs - they are often said to taste like chicken with a mild

flavor.

Traditional French Food Cheese - France is particularly famous for its wide variety of cheeses.

Different cheeses come from different regions of France and there are more than 365 types – that is one for

each day of the year!

Soft cheeses are the most popular but can be quite smelly, which does not help when you try to bring some

home from holidays.

Some French cheeses you may already know are:

Camembert, Roquefort, Brie, Beaufort and Emmental.

Wine - in France, wine is everywhere. Even children drink it at mealtimes [ but it is usually diluted].

Different regions of France specialise in the types of wine they

grow. This helps to make France the biggest wine producer

in the world.

In certain parts, such as Alsace, white wine is particularly good.

Whereas in others, such as Bordeaux, red wine is mostly made.

Possibly, the most famous wine in the world is champagne, which is made in the area called Champagne. It is so special that

the name ` is protected and not everybody can use it. If they do, they will be ….. SUED !!

Traditional French Food Bread - who can resist the gorgeous aroma of freshly baked French

bread?!

There are nearly as many types of French bread as there are cheeses - and they go so well together.

My perfect food day:

Croissant and strawberry jam in the morning for Breakfast,

Baguette with ham and cheese for Lunch

… and a Crepe (its related, you know), for Tea!
