Your School, Your Data

Your School, Your Data

There are a lot of software products that would benefit your school – and your students – if only those products could access the right data, without endangering privacy.

SIS Liberty allows you to easily share your student information with other applications while keeping YOU in control of your data.

Raw student data can be enhanced through controlled data export to other trusted applications.

Liberty acts as a gateway tolimit direct access to your SIS database.

Data remains safely on servers within your school or district throughout the entire process.

Avoid the need for custom built integrations to other products.

Once extracted, you can easily and inexpensively re-use SIS data across multiple applications.

You can define subsets of data specific to particular people or applications

You control where your data goes, who can see it, exactly how much is sent, and in what format it’s delivered.

Without SIS Liberty, your school data is trapped in your Student Information System. Liberate it!

How it works

Discovery Software has spent more than 20 years creating over 100 Bridge Plugins for different SIS databases and keeping them current.

Bridge Plugins extract SIS data and put it into SIS Liberty's Generalized School Database. There are two steps.

The Bridge stores the SIS data in a proprietary intermediate format (PDE and PDU files).

Step 1:

Each school’s PDE and PDU files are stored in their own folder, managed in Liberty’s Schools tab.

Step 1:

Liberty then applies business rules to the data in the PDE/PDU files and stores the results in its Generalized School Database, which uses both a proprietary structure (XDB) plus SQLite.

Step 2:

Because all bridges are different, they need different settings. The Bridge itself generates the user interface displayed in Liberty’s Sources tab.

Step 2:

Providers are the plugins that send data from the Liberty database to other applications. Every application that gets its data from Liberty requires its own Provider plugin.

Step 2:

The Datasets tab lets you choose and name subsets of data from the Liberty Database.

Step 2:

The Recipients tab is where you select which kind of data set each person should receive, and which application will be using that data (so that it’s in the application’s desired form).

Step 2:

Your data is sent directly from your school and only to the destinations specified in the Providers that you install.

You stay in control for one simple reason:

It’s your school, and your data.
