Ethics = Morals

Often thought as just the providence of religious dialogue

In business, often treated as an extra curricular activity. “A nice wall plaque" in preference to Financial gain, or Fear

For the individual – “whatever”!

There Are Tremendous Forces At Play to

Conform - to do as your told

& (but, they said)

It’s OK!

TV - Breaking Bad

Movies - Batman

Politics - Politicians

Marriages -

Bosses - Supervisors

Character is what guides us

Action is a primary communication tool

Words convey intent

All conducted in an atmosphere of openness of

Fairness with leadership

BUT..............

You can only be successful in a company/corporate culture that is

open to ethical dialogue and practices

What to do if you’re in such a culture

What to do if you are not..............

First........

Determine how you will react

“Know thy self”

Make sure of your motivation

Being lead by pride, revenge or your duty to your organization, society, and to yourself - exposure

Then, Second: Determine Possible Responses

Ethical Dissent vs. Whistleblowing

Within the company, or

Going public

Ethical Dissent - Level 1

PTPersonInformal Dissent - first level:”

First person:

“I’m uncomfortable with doing that”

“I’ll need an authorization memo”

“I’ll get back to you”

Of another:

I see a possible loophole.........
